539807 2007-04-10 21:13:00 I have a home network with 2 computers and a laptop. The laptop has been connected to the internet wirelessly no problem. Recently I connected to a hotel hotspot and since returning home I cannot log on. The Wireless Network Connection Status reports 'Connected' Speed 54 Mbps But the Activity says its sending but not recieving.
I can log on if I use an ethernet cable and disable the wireless. Any ideas?
Unfortunately I have recently moved and misplaced all my installation disks. The wireless modem is a linksys connected to a Nokia router Thanks for any help David

539810 2007-04-10 23:09:00 right click wireless connection in network connections...choose properties, click once on "internet protocol (tcp/ip)" click on properties button ensure "obtain ip address automaticlly" is selected and "obtain dns server address automatically" are both selected.

also
type in the run box "cmd" press enter type in "ipconfig /all"
the numbers we are interested in are associated with the gateway does this match the pc that is able to connect using a wired connection (patch cable).
also does your ip match the gateway excluding the last number
ie gateway 169.0.0.1 your ip 169.0.0.67 for the wireless card

539811 2007-04-10 23:40:00 Thanks beama The laptop is not picking up the wireless connection Obtains the ip address and Subnet mask but not the Default gateway

With the cable connected it works fine. What I can't figure is that the wireless network connection status says it is connected and all the diagnostics say it's fine except it won't connect!

539812 2007-04-10 23:49:00 whats the ip and mask the wireless card getting beama (111)
539813 2007-04-11 00:00:00 ip 192.168.1.5 mask 255.255.255.0 DavidW (532)
539814 2007-04-11 00:19:00 try this then
from the cmd prompt and using your wireless card only
type ipconfig /renew

List any error message you receive
your lease on the ip may not have expired

if no errors
ipconfig /all

do you get a gateway address now
if so try connecting to the internet

im off to work now ill check back later

539816 2007-04-11 05:31:00 check all connections from the router to your wifi point, power on, plugs plugged in etc.
do you get the network connection icon down by your clock has it got a red cross by it
please tell me you use wifi security, check the key on your lappy ensure that is correct

Have you replaced or added any hardware to your network since you last connected to the wifi
