541451 2007-04-17 07:28:00 Wow, if the HD2900XT is going to cost as much as the 8800GTX did, then that means whoever bought the 8800GTX when it first came out got a pretty bad deal.....

Whatever new state of the art card you buy becomes a bad deal in 5 minutes.
Ditto the new ATIs in oh lets be generous, 3 months after they are released.

Not really. I have had the pleasure of using my 8800GTX now for the past 6-8 months and it was well worth the money spent.

When I brought my crappy old 7700 Viper it cost the same as the 8800GTX does now but then it was top of the line then as well.
Now it is just my downloading PC.

But how do you think you'd feel when the HD2900XT comes out at the same price you paid for your 8800GTX? :p

I would love any one of those babes now, though.

No worries at all. As I said I have had the use of my card now for some time and was able to up the settings in every game I play.
Besides which I only ever buy NVidia cards anyway.

541456 2007-04-17 12:52:00 If i was in your position i would hold off for a mid-range DX10 card, your more likely to notice the 6200 crapness long before you notice the lack of DX10 support.

Alright, I think I may wait then. It should only be a few months?

And I noticed the crapness long ago lol...I've got it overclocked to 411mhz core (up from 350mhz) and memory at around 510mhz.

main reason I've noticed it's crapness is because I play...Oblivion :badpc: I get 15-20fps on 640x480res with all the settings turned right down (except view distance, it's right up). The card does run games like EVE, Rome:Total War etc alright.

Would the mid range DX10 cards have similar (slightly higher) prices than their DX9 counterparts do now?

541457 2007-04-18 00:16:00 Mid-range nVidia cards have just been released and as expected they perform pretty arse! In a lot of cases they're outperformed by the X1950GT or the 7900GS! Pete O'Neil (6584)
541458 2007-04-18 00:52:00 Mid-range nVidia 8 series cards> I saw some 8600GTS cards on trademe - selling for $475 or so. Too expensive, for the time being.

Pete - I saw an 8600GTS benchmark result on the internet yesterday and I actually found 8600GTS are slightly better than a 7900GT. Where did you see those results? Or were you talking about the 8600GT or 8500GT?

541459 2007-04-18 03:28:00 Nope in most reviews ive seen the 8600GTS struggles to outperform the 7900GS and if your lucky in some cases keeps up with the 7950GT. Pete O'Neil (6584)
541460 2007-05-20 09:09:00 :stare: The X2900XT PSU requirements is 750W. But it's a good bargain for 8800GTS replacement.
Have anyone even considering about this card? It's noisy and consumes heaps of power for sure, but great for a value, but when driver is fixed this card can munch up the 8800 GTS.

:) I wonder how much is the X2950XTX cost, but this time the die size have been reduced. But this time ATI/AMD is pushing the GPU clocked speed to GHz and 8900 is not even close to that. Do you guys think this card is going to cost up to around $1000?
