541441 2007-04-16 23:23:00 The last time I use google for "How to change System Manufacturer in Windows" it let me down. Google did not let you down, you let yourself down... Google finds what YOU say, there for if it is there, Google will find it... you probably used the wrong keywords...

Rumor has it that ATI will attempt to undercut nVidia by around $100-$150 US, so the HD2900XT will sell for the same price as the 8800GTS. Thats the reason why its taken so long to launch the product, ATI went to 65nm so they could get decent yeilds and thus undercut nVidia! Gasp! I think looking at it currently my next card is going to be ATI

541442 2007-04-17 00:58:00 The new ATi R600 card is going to consume around 230W. No kidding most of the forums shows that. I think I wanna take out the stock cooling and equip with my Liquid cooling kit on.
:illogical Looks nice huh? I guess you also need enough power to feed it too. Like a better PSU. 750W maybe just enough for it. For my specs below, I don't think 750W is enough for me. I mean enough for stock but not overclocking.
Here's my Rig Project:
Rig Project for Q3 2007:
CPU: Intel Quad Core
HDD: Size Unknown but normal HDD 7200rpm SATA. But 3X HDDs.
Memory: 2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix Tracer DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module
Graphics: AMD/ATi R600 Series
MOBO: Intel Chipset P35 "Bearlake"
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 226BW 22" 1680x1050 2ms S Panel
DVD: Asustek DRW-1814BLT Serial-ATA DVD Writer
PSU: Silverstone ST75F 750W Modular Plug Power
Case: Thermaltake Armor LCS
Software: OS Unknown.

:D Remember last time? $3000 is my budget? But this time I going for a little bit over the limit. I think this PC should serve me well. Any suggestion? Or still unknown? I guess I've have to wait for the time to come.

541443 2007-04-17 01:53:00 ...128-bit HDR rendering, 24xAA, physics processing...

24xAA?! *faint*

That's some serious anti-aliasing... there's me happy with 2xQ!!

Still, I'd love to see the benchmarks of these new cards if those specs are true, but I'm holding off the jump to Vista & DX10 until there's a decent set of games ready to play. Kinda like the PS3 really... Give Vista, DX10 and Windows Live a year and PC gamers will really be smiling I reckon

541444 2007-04-17 02:03:00 How long do you think it will be before games stop comming out supporting both DX10 and DX9? 2 Reasons for the question, I was contemplating a graphics upgrade soon (I'm on a 6200TC) and I was also hoping to stick with XP for a while longer.

Money, hmpf.

541445 2007-04-17 02:13:00 Well if the 2009 release date for Vienna is true, I think i'm going to skip Vista altogether. mejobloggs (264)

Do you have any HARD facts? meaning are they from ATI? if not, they are just speculation and are to be taken with a grain of salt, it maywell be around there (I really doubt it), but I don't believe anything unless it is HARD facts.

The 8800GTX doesn't even consume that much and the R600 is smaller process size thus less power...

Have a look here (www.dailytech.com) and then come back and review your statement.

(for those of you who are only interested in the main points... read below)

The test system configuration is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700
NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI based motherboard
2x1GB PC2-6400
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XTX
Western Digital Raptor 150Power consumption:

X1950XTX, Ilde - 184W, Load - 308W
8800GTX, idle - 229W, Load - 321W

Power consumption was measured using a Kill-A-Watt power meter that measures a power supply’s power draw directly from the wall outlet. The power supply used in the test system is a Thermaltake Toughpower that carries an efficiency rating up to 85%.

NOTE: the power consumption figures are of THE WHOLE SYSTEM

the main PCI-E slot can only supply 75w, add 2 more 6pin pci-e power connectors at 75w each, its another 150w. Therefore the max amount of power it can draw is only 3x75w which is only 225W

Games will support DX9 cards for ages, its only recently that DX8 cards have started to have problems with modern DX9 games. Realistically you should expect you card to have insufficient graphical processing power long before lack of support for the next gen DX becomes a problem.

If i was in your position i would hold off for a mid-range DX10 card, your more likely to notice the 6200 crapness long before you notice the lack of DX10 support.

Well I'm getting a new ATI and not Vista.
It will just have to downgrade its abilities and run DX9 stuff.

As for the rumours, ATI always take ages to release their cards but theynusually always are better by the time they do than Nvidia.

541449 2007-04-17 03:21:00 Wow, if the HD2900XT is going to cost as much as the 8800GTX did, then that means whoever bought the 8800GTX when it first came out got a pretty bad deal..... qazwsxokmijn (102)

.

Prince of Persia-Sands of time
Rallycross challenge
Battlefeild 2

All games that required DX9 hardware, and a couple of those released quite a few years ago . There are a number of others .

On the whole I can agree with your logic, But don't count out the logic of MS, I can see them springing the next Halo or perhaps a lesser but still popular game with the bare minimum not only being Vista but a DX10 Capable (rather then compatible) video card .
