541378 2007-04-16 02:03:00 I lived in hope but failed,I have reinstalled XP with sp2 added on but still showing as 127g in properties for the drive in my computer,I can't see how it can be different, everything looks ok.
I am able to remove the drive and put in another PC using a caddy to see if it is a problem with this drive from new.
I will report back when done.

541379 2007-04-16 02:22:00 Are you still seeing it as 300G in Bios? PaulD (232)
541380 2007-04-16 02:58:00 Hi,
Read this....
support.microsoft.com

Its about supporting drives greater than 137 Gigs

You need to enable the "EnableBigLba" in the registry

Cheers

541381 2007-04-16 03:11:00 With SP1 or later you don't need to fiddle with the registry.
From that KB "By default, support is enabled in SP1."

541382 2007-04-16 05:56:00 sorry Paul I had to go out and do some work,if I enter the Bios it is the correct drive name and shows its capacity as 300g,I tried to pause the post but missed it,but I am sure I have seen it correct there as well, should I check out the reg setting anyway,
cheers for the help,
i will try to caddy it shortly,

541383 2007-04-16 06:03:00 Does the Disk Management show the full 300 gigs? Go Start > Run and type diskmgmt.msc - click OK.

Does it show the whole drive with only 137 gig formatted and the remainder as unformatted?

541384 2007-04-16 06:17:00 yes it dose,127.99 healthy and 151.47 unallocated,

John.

541385 2007-04-16 06:23:00 Righto, that is good then. :)

If you right-click over the unallocated partition of the new drive and select "format", you can format it and then be able to use it. It will be a separate partition to your 137 gigs on which Windows is installed (C drive). You can use the new partition to save your personal stuff on which means if you have to reinstall Windows at some stage, the separate partition will remain untouched with all your personal data on it. It also makes defragmenting your drive easier seeing it is now two different partitions rather than one large drive.

Does that all make sense to you?

541386 2007-04-16 06:26:00 Well it is and XP SP0/SP1 issue... Slipstream XP with SP2 and you could even make it an unattended setup if you wish with this (http://www.nliteos.com/) program (N-Lite) and then it will see the full 300GB... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
541387 2007-04-16 06:27:00 I was going to partition with magic anyway,I will go ahead and resize it and see how it goes,
cheers to all,
John.
