| 541415 | 2007-04-16 08:17:00 | I'm looking at getting a pc shortly. I'm just wondering if I got a DirectX 9 card does that mean I would be totally unable to play any DirectX 10 games (when they actually come out)? | west (11903) | ||

| 541419 | 2007-04-16 10:29:00 | You say we will need Vista to play DX10 games? How long do you think DX10 games will continue to have DX9 support? I ask because a fair few people are indicating they may stay on XP for a while yet, and infact XP is still being sold by Microsoft until the start of 2008 (or so I read) |

It would be best to wait and see what ATI brings out and to drive down the price of the Nvidia DX 10 cards. Personally I will wait for there to be plenty of DX 10 games that I want to buy before I splash out heaps of money on a new DX 10 card and Vista Ultimate, and with service pack 2(I want to have 2 computers 1 with Vista for DX 10 gaming and the other 1, I have now with XP PRO on). |

| 541421 | 2007-04-16 10:45:00 | Many DX10 gmaes will have support for DX9.0 code meaning that the game will successfully run on DX9.0 hardware. The only difference will be visual and in some cases performance. DX10 many in some cases be more efficient at rendering a scene compared to the DX9.0 equivalent. Just remember back to the release of DX9.0, DX8.1 cards didn't become obsolete overnight. I many cases it was the cards overall speed that made them redundant and not which version of DX that was supported. |

I have no intentions of moving to Vista. Hopefully it will all be a bad dream and we'll be forced to move to Vienna by then anyway.:D I've only had XP since Jan 2005. I resisted quite a long time. It was my MB drivers that made me install it. More importantly: www.dailytech.com and www.vr-zone.com So I wonder how I'll go on Crysis with that and XP, haha...... |

Yes I agree,I would not for an example buy a card for gaming that only has 128mb of ram on now,its 512mb or more for me now.:D Plus like you said the clock speeds are way better now as well. |
