What I did to get them all into other puters was to generate an email form in whatever client you currently use, and "broadcast" all the names into the "sent-to" as a BCC, with the main e-mail addressed to yourself. That way, you can goto the e-mail you sent yourself, open "Show details" and then just to make sure you have them in your new system, "Reply-All" and they will be inserted into the new address book.

Just for fun, let everyone on that list know that you are transferring the address book to a new one, and that you aren't really needing a reply to your e-mail.

That might not be really clear to you...let me know if you need more instructions on how to do this.

541282 2007-04-15 19:41:00 It might be easier to just export the complete address book and delete the ones you don't want when you have them installed on the other computer.

In the Address Book select the Tools menu, click on Export
Select the address book file to save by left mouse clicking on it once.
Save in: (choose your floppy disk)
Save as Type: LDIF file
File name: Address Book Backup
Click on the Save button

541283 2007-04-15 21:03:00 I've tried that LDIF file thing, and messed it up every time...that's why I like sending them to the new system in an e-mail and then they are automatically entered, at least in GMail they are.....

I tried importing/exporting of contacts in the CSV file format (Comma Separated Values) and it never works...maybe I'm too old to understand it...but if I mess it up too .....I'd like to think I am not alone with that problem.

541284 2007-04-15 21:26:00 Download Mozbackup.

Run it and choose just the address book.

Then restore it on the new PC and delete the names you don't want.

Easy.

541285 2007-04-16 00:46:00 Create a new address book (File / New / Address book)
Name it "temp" or whatever and copy the required addresses into it.
Highlight "temp" and then Tools/ Export - either CSV or LDIF, both work if you're going from Tbird to Tbird.
