| 541223 | 2007-04-15 08:15:00 | Hey all, Just wondering what the easiest way to make a slideshow outta pix would be? I basically want to have each on-screen for about 4-5 seconds, as well as a backing track or two, with optional transitions maybe? Not really too fussed on that last part though. Cheap / Free ideal, I dont need something super fancy / advanced, just quick & simple! :) Any suggestions or ideas welcome Cheers Chill. |

Other than that, yep Nerovision will do VCD/SVCD (altho it looks like u need a plugin for SVCD) slideshow cd's. You could try CDburner (http://www.cdburnerxp.se) Dont know if it does slideshows tho. |

| 541226 | 2007-04-15 09:46:00 | I'd use PhotoStory 3 (www.microsoft.com) to make the movie, then use Video DVD Maker (http://www.videodvdmaker.com/) to write the movie to DVD. The free version can't do VCDs or menus, but hey, it's free ;) | davehartley (3487) | ||
| 541227 | 2007-04-15 09:51:00 | And I have just burnt jpg's to dvd and they run as a sideshow! Just with normal XP software. Hey, dvd's aren't that expensive, try burning all your jpg's to dvd or cd' and try it. Doesn't work in my daughters dvd, but does in mine, her daughters, and my most other dvd players we have played them in. | supergran (108) | ||

The free version can't do VCDs or menus, but hey, it's free ;) But PhotoStory 3 says it runs on these system requirements:- System Requirements Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP; Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor Required: Intel P3 700-megahertz (MHz) or equivalent processor, an Intel P4 1.7-gigahertz (GHz) or equivalent processor recommended.
Memory: 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM, 512 MB of RAM or more recommended.
Disk space: 400 MB of available hard disk space.
Monitor: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor.
Windows Genuine Advantage (www.microsoft.com).
Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 (www.microsoft.com).
Microsoft DirectX 9.0 (www.microsoft.com) or later.
Windows XPcompatible sound card and speakers.
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device. Microphone to record narration. No mention of Vista, WinXPPro64 Office 2003 runs here and I would use Powerpoint to do this job. Not a movie. A slideshow was mentioned in the original post. |

| 541229 | 2007-04-15 12:00:00 | The original topic is "JPEG->DVD Slideshow," so a PowerPoint presentation isn't what's wanted. No mention of OS or machine specs in original post, so until more info comes from original poster I'll stand by my advice :) |

No mention of OS or machine specs in original post, so until more info comes from original poster I'll stand by my advice :) Fair enough but a slide show is not a movie is it? So why mention "Video DVD maker"? We also do not know if Chill wants to play the resultant DVD on a DVD player connected to the TV for example. Possibly Chilling_Silence will be running Linux. Possibly Chill will already have the software and will not need to download more. And Nero costs unless bundled with a CD/DVD writer. Possibly Chill has software that will do the job already. It was not my intention to upset you. |

| 541231 | 2007-04-15 14:01:00 | I'm not upset :D  However . . . I still think the best way to get a "slideshow" of JPEGs onto a DVD is to make a movie out of them . A Windows "slideshow" is produced by applications (such as PowerPoint or Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) dragging images from storage and displaying them on-screen, but this probably isn't the best way to make a DVD of them . As supergran mentioned, most DVD players now have a "slideshow" facility to display JPEGs, but there's no guarantee that a given player does have it (as it's "non-standard"), and you won't be able to put any backing tracks on . Since the DVD format is fairly standard when it comes to movies, making a movie of a slideshow is going to be the most compatible way of doing this so it works on anything . I agree with your points: We don't know the OS Is it playing on a stand-alone DVD player or in a computer? And we don't know what software the original poster has on their system However, even if they're using Linux or MacOSwhatever, I contend that making a movie of stills would still would be the most "compatible" way of doing this to DVD . (I just have little idea as to the software they'd use!) To be honest, I've only used Video DVD Maker a couple of times -- I use Nero mostly, as I have it :) However, I mentioned it (and PhotoStory) as they are free and simple to use, as requested . The encoding of video is slow, I guess, but you get what you pay for! Of course, if there's more information forthcoming that changes this, I'll be happy to concede there's a better way . But for Joe Public who wants to make a DVD slideshow of family photos to give to Grandma so she can watch them on the telly, this is fairly straightfoward :D |

| 541232 | 2007-04-16 06:08:00 | If you want a really nice 'no brainer' drag and drop kinda thing then I recommend Memories on TV. It isn't free and I don't even remember how much it cost but it gives a truly professional result and it is SO EASY. I used Photodex's ProShow prior to Memories adn it gave me nothing but trouble and the people at Photodex :badpc: wouldn't refund my program cost, even though I'd perservered tying to get it working for over a year with several emails and a ton of wasted media etc. So for ease, stability and a great result go for Memories on TV. Just remember, if you have a program (like Photodex), which gives you trouble you will end up paying more in the long run for the wasted media. | AmandaR (12142) | ||
