542088 2007-04-18 10:10:00 For no reason at all, my "packets" of internet data (sent/received) are going up even when I am not using the internet, or have any program open that uses a connection (eg. LimeWire). I left it idle on the desktop with nothing open and the usage meter went up for no apparent reason, as if it thinks I'm downloading things. PLEASE HELP! Chris815 (10270)
542089 2007-04-18 10:15:00 sounds like you need to get speedy's HiJack this file and run it on your computer, since it would appear that someone else has access to your bandwidth. winmacguy (3367)
542090 2007-04-18 10:19:00 Anti-Virus, firewall, Windows Security Center downloading stuff? beeswax34 (63)
542091 2007-04-18 10:23:00 I have AVG, it's not downloading or anything. Neither is Windows Security Center. I just have the Windows firewall active, and it's always been fine.

I am on a computer network as well, and have never faced this problem before. It only started yesterday.

542092 2007-04-18 10:32:00 Run hijackthis & post it for the boffins to read. It sounds like you might have a worm or something - it's quite possible to be infected even with AVG and windows firewall.

I would suggest that you get a decent 3rd party firewall since Windows firewall is about as effective at stopping intrusions as a sieve is at holding water. There are plenty of very good free firewalls available.

I will try it, but why would a worm (on my squeaky clean PC!) make it so that the packets rise when nothing is being downloaded?

Anything's possible with Windows.

Since its a clean PC, was SP1 or 2 installed or any updates?

Oh, by "clean", I mean regularly scanned with AVG, Ad-aware, Spybot, etc. Apart from that, yes.
I just scanned with HijackThis and am not sure what to do...
