541971 2007-04-18 00:37:00 Am running p4-2.53 & Windows 2000 pro.
Shortly after boot up I get a error msg the system can't find hotplug.dll
hotplug is where its should be and un-corrupted.
I do not have any usb plugable peripherals.
Frequently I get a "boot disk" error but this appears false as hitting enter and the machine re-boots OK.
Very occasionally I have to use the emergency repair diskette to do a repair of windows.

Does anyone have any idea what the matter is and how I can fix it permamently.

TIA phil.

Repair the dll and it should leave you alone as there'll be nothing to need it and it'll stay quiet.

It may be a prefetch-type thing or set to run at startup as a default, and it looks for things...so you may not have any control of it running or not.

It's just a part of XP and I think it's in a SP for 2000 too. You'll need it someday...or so Mr. Bill thinks anyway.

You might be able to stop it's starting at boot time by using the Tools in Spybot S&D and toggle it off.
