541960 2007-04-17 23:27:00 The moment I switch on the wall outlet power, this pc boots up - before even I push the power button on the computer's front panel. I could turn off the machine normally without any problem. I have to push the Power button on the front panel in order to boot up the computer (as it should be) as long as the wall socket power remains ON. But when I switch OFF the wall outlet and turn it back ON, the computer boots up automatically.

What do you all suggest? A failed psu? Checked all the wire connections, seems to be OK.

Cheers

541961 2007-04-17 23:35:00 Sounds like the button on the front of the case is sticking.

Either get another case, or try and fix the button/switch.

But, if the button switch is jammed, then the machine would have turned off - just like press and hold on the buton for a few seconds and the computer will be turned OFF.

I have tried pulling out the power wire connected to the MB and the button switch and the computer turns ON the moment I switch ON the wall power.

Or, a Motherboard problem???

541963 2007-04-17 23:56:00 Check the BIOS. There is probably a setting telling it to boot up at power on. bob_doe_nz (92)
541964 2007-04-18 00:26:00 Yup check the BIOS for the Wake on LAN option.

See if its enabled. Thats if this PC is on a network.

541968 2007-04-18 01:45:00 Also just a matter of interest, I would like to get rid of this old machine, how much do you reckon I can get?

My spec:

MB: Asus P4PE
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.2 MHz
RAM: 512 MB
Video: nVidia GeForce MX440
Monitor: 17" AOC monitor
HDD: 60 GB Western Digital
Onboard sound & NIC
CD writer & floppy disk
Keyboard & mouse

541969 2007-04-18 01:55:00 Hmm I could/would buy it

But I wouldnt need the monitor, since I've got 2 spare monitors here.

Or the hdd, or the floppy. I would buy a cheap mouse/keyboard.

And I would most probably put a P4 in, instead of the celeron.

So it wouldnt be much.
