541617 2007-04-17 01:44:00 I want to learn a bit more about servers (my knowledge in that area is very limited) so I've been playing round with server 2003 & domains. I've found a few things I want to do that there must be an easier way to do them:

1: Have all users map a network drive to their documents on the server & set it as their my documents folder.

Is there a global setting for that? Going through each user account & setting it in the profile tab would get a bit tedious.

2: how do you associate logon scripts with groups? I can only find global & user specific settings for logon scripts.

3: Can you delegate the creation of non-admin users to a specific user account?

541620 2007-04-18 06:47:00 Learn about Organisation Units and Group policy. Can all be done via folder redirection and login scripts. berryb (99)
541621 2007-04-26 05:29:00 I've got the logon scripts working well by using a global logon script with some if statements (not complex enough to warrant separate scripts) & used folder redirection to point everyone's my documents to the network.

I tried creating a new GPO for restricting a group of users & set the security on it, but it isn't being applied. any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

541622 2007-04-26 08:59:00 Running server 2003 I was able to setup a network whereby my mac (system 8.6) could connect and transfer files to and from a directory on the server.

probably not what you care about, but it's possible. lol

Wow, that's going back a bit.
I would have thought that would have been reasonably standard on Appletalk. The trickier bit would have been if you were trying to fileshare via Appletalk with other windows machines that were connected to the server if my memory serves me correctly. I believe that this was the issue that most PC IT types used to have with the Mac.

541624 2007-04-26 21:50:00 Another question: How do I give domain users local machine admin rights, but not domain admin rights?

Also, when I installed the OS, I used the default value for the number of allowed concurrent logons, but that is too small. Is there any way to increase that now? It is the VLK version of server 2003.

541625 2007-04-26 23:20:00 You have to create an OU and apply the GP to that OU. Then put the restricted users into that OU. The GP has to be assigned to a OU. When the user logs in they get the global GP and then the restricted GP that is assigned to the OU they belong to.

As for local admin rights search google. If you only have a handfull of PC's easier to do it manually. Can all be done via the sever or locally.

Allowed logons try control panel/licences
