| 542016 | 2007-04-18 04:34:00 | Does anyone know of one? Tried the old relaplayer alternative but it keeps blanking out on the 2nd video I play... even realplayer does this. Vista Ultimate..... is it built in and I just need to point *.rm at something else then or what? Confused.... Thanks |

| 542017 | 2007-04-18 06:13:00 | try VLC Media Player www.videolan.org- It even managed to play what was left of my broken AVI's and fixed parts as well rm stands for real media. Maybe its a corrupt file?!? |

| 542018 | 2007-04-18 07:43:00 | VLC will play .rm files, and I doubt its a problem with the source files. Is it alwasy the 2nd video in a playlist that you try & play? What if you re-arrange the play order? | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
| 542019 | 2007-04-18 08:04:00 | I run window vista home basic. I have the klite codec pack installed - the basic version without the player. www.free-codecs.com I assosciate rm file with the GOM player: www.gomplayer.com I also have the real alternative installed I did try the windows classic player but kept getting errror messages saying it wasn't completely compatible. I would imagine that is the cause of your problems. I would unistall and reinstall all 3 program, but make sure you install the GOM player last, otherwise you can have problems with associating it with RM. Having said all that screens going blank on you, doesn't sound like an exclusively vista problem - more of a codec one. No harm in trying what I've said though. |

I followed your advice...(well most of it) and it works GOM that is and i have got rid of those other two and its working fine now. No idea what was wrong but Vista was issuing a warning that it was changing default back to windows basic because of relaplayer being old (yeah the latest version even). So problem solved and bye bye realplonker... Thanks |

| 542023 | 2007-04-18 22:21:00 | Wasn't it an old Microsoft employee who left and set up Real Player...? Unless real player release a basic (ie free of all the additional features and dubious software) version of its player, it is never going to get my support. With windows vista, the GOM player is imo, the best free player available, and it certainly beats some of its costly rivals. |

| 542024 | 2007-04-19 03:34:00 | isn't real player ( the free one) the one that is nothing but spyware and adds a whole bunch of crap to startup that throw pop-ups at you and even goes as far as creating a remote user on the PC? i forget which version of real player does this but i read an article about it  |

MS have some work to do I think.... |
