| 542678 | 2007-04-20 09:56:00 | Everytime I try to load windows (either normally or in safemode), the first black screen with the windows logo and the progress bar pops up and then it freezes. The processor fan is making a loud whirring noise, so I think it might be that, but I used an Acronis boot disk to make copy an image onto the harddrive, and that presented absolutely no problems. The computer stayed on for over 10 minutes without freezing. It only happens when I start windows (even after I copied on the new image) Is the processor fan noise a red herring? Or are the demands that starting up windows so much higher than that of the acronis image program that it's causing the computer to heat up so fast (even during a cold boot) that it freezes? any ideas? | 542681 | 2007-04-20 10:41:00 | If its doing it in safe mode too, it maybe hardware related. (The CPU maybe overheating). Altho, it wouldnt take 10 mins for it to freeze, (if it was overheating), it should shut the system down. a couple of secs, after u turn the system on. I would open the case, and make sure no wires are hitting the CPU fan, and make sure the CPU fan is actually spinning. And also make sure the CPU fan or something around the CPU isnt cracked. What version of Windows is installed, and whats the specs of the system? |

| 542682 | 2007-04-20 11:01:00 | I thought it was curious that when I did the image using the Acronis boot disk, the computer worked fine for over 10 minutes . . no overheating, no freezing . This only happens when I load Windows . . . Maybe it's a bad initialisation of hardware that windows tries to use but Acronis doesn't . I'll get you the specs as soon as possible . I'm at work now and can't get that info . Thanks! |

| 542685 | 2007-04-25 10:09:00 | Good morning, Here's the current situation with the system. I boot the computer normally - I get to the first screen for windows (the black one with the logo and the progress bar), and then it freezes. I restart a few times - no luck I try again in Safe Mode - it start loading the drivers - and freezes. So I try to reinstall Windows - it recognized the cd, starts copying the necessary files to start the installation program, just as it's about to get to the first menu of the installation (it says, 'Now starting Windows), it freezes. It seems that my computer and windows are not too happy with each other. Every time it starting Windows, whether it's normally, in safe mode or in the installation, it freezes. The system temp is 27 degress, the CPU fan is running at 3125 RPM and the System fan at 3183 RMP, so I don't think it's an overheating problem. (update: I just popped in the Acronis True Image disk to reinstall the image, and now it's freezing moments after starting the program) Could this be a RAM problem, or some other hardware malfunction that is causing the system to freeze? Thanks for any advice. |

| 542687 | 2007-04-25 10:20:00 | Yes, I also have the installation CD, which I've tried to use to reinstall windows from stratch. Right after it's finished copying the installation files and it about to open the windows installation program (it say on the bottom of the blue screen, "Now Starting Windows") - it freezes. | thanatos42 (12167) | ||
