542558 2007-04-20 05:49:00 Hi to all. Well the problem Im having is that I just bought a new Zune and I installed the software first since thats what it says I should do. then I take my zune out of the plastic and connect it to the PC since the software asks for it, but the Zune just got to a black screen with a plug or cord on it and it does nothing else, like turning on or off or anything like that. Also in the part where the software says "scanning for device" It doesnt detect anything thou the Zune is connected.

Anyone knows why is this or if this is normal for the very first time the zune charges or something? Thanks in advance!

542559 2007-04-20 05:54:00 You must be the only person in the country to actually own a Zune. (so you might be struggling for replies.) From what I have heard about the Zune your experience sounds normal.
You might want to check this link www.zune.net

542560 2007-04-20 05:59:00 How come I might be the only one with a Zune, I mean, it has or does more things than the Ipod, more = better or not? JOYBEBA6679 (10686)
542561 2007-04-20 06:01:00 Are you in NZ or the US?

It may have more "features" than the iPod, however the main feature difference between the Zune and the iPod is one that you have just discovered... The Zune doesn't always work when you plug it in to your PC the first time, and features are only good if they work.

542563 2007-04-20 06:08:00 Ah, that figures. Welcome.
This is a New Zealand based web site and the Zune is currently only available in US stores. I think most of the Zunes that are available are still sitting on US store shelves judging by recent Zune sales figures.

Well it may have things Ipods dont have (It has wireless doesnt it)?

I wouldnt say its better than an Ipod tho.

1, being it isnt compatible with anything else but another Zune.

And even if u copy a song depending on what it is, it wont last long on another Zune.

542565 2007-04-20 06:12:00 I see. Anyways I dont share my music so thats not the problem. So anyone else knows if this is normal? I mean does it have to fully charge first before I cant connect it to the PC? JOYBEBA6679 (10686)
542566 2007-04-20 06:13:00 Correct Speedy, the Zune does have wireless which is only useful if you can find another person who owns a Zune to "squirt" a song to and that song will be automatically encased in Microsoft's own DRM regardless of whether you bought the song from the Zune store online or ripped it from your CD collection.

The iPod doesn't yet have Wifi and it doesn't have the same user limiting DRM either. Also the iPod range has a better colour selection.

Try and ignore winmacguy if you can, He is the resident mac tryhard. Next he will be quoting sales figures of the iPod.:groan:

Though if he is correct about the Zune not being yet sold here in NZ then I can't see anyone here having any first hand experience to call upon.
