542688 2007-04-25 10:27:00 Got a spare cdrom??

If u have, pull the cdrom thats in the case out, and install another one.

See if it'll install then. The cdrom maybe stuffed?

Are u sure whatever IDE devices are in the case are jumpered properly?

And does it look like the XP cd is scratched?

Start again with a new install, or do a repair install.

542690 2007-04-25 22:38:00 this is a tricky one, several things can cause those symptoms. Was windows running alright and this just happened, or has it never worked?

Faulty RAM can cause files to be corrupted as they are copied - resulting in windows not installing properly, I recommend using a bootable CD with memtest on it and testing the RAM - if you have more than one RAM chip try them individually to see if any are causing problems.

Another possibilty is that there's something wrong with the HDD - either a fault or corrupted file system etc, deleting the partitions and re-doing from scratch could be woth a try, please note this will delete everything so make sure you have backups. If you have access to another pc you could install the hard drive in it and scan for errors from a working copy of windows.

Last option I can think of is removing any non-essential hardware such as LAN cards, modems, sound cards, tv tuners etc, re-installing windows with the bare minimum of hardware, then if that works re-install your cards 1 at a time and keep a careful eye out for signs of trouble. LAN cards / Network problems for instance can easily halt windows on start-up.

Good Luck
