| 542754 | 2007-04-21 02:34:00 | hello all, i was on the internet last night downloading a lot of RAR files from an ftp site. now i was downloading about 8 files at a time and the speed for each file was between 35 qnd 55 kps. which is about the norm for my slingshot broadband connection, tho it can get up to about 150 - 200 when downloading single files. the interesting thing is when i went to load up the next 8 files, the speed was around 4000kps!! the 48MB files were finished in seconds. was so cool to watch! files after that were back to the usual speed. did i just happen upon an internet black hole?? wouldn't it be nice to have that speed all the time...sigh... :waughh: cheers! |

| 542757 | 2007-04-22 21:27:00 | FTP's are designed for file tranfer (File Transfer Protocol) hence more often than not you would get higher download speeds than downloading via HTTP. Having said that... I've been on some FTP servers where the speed was at best an absolute crawl. Download speed from a FTP server does depend on type of connection it has to the Internet (that is, the thicker the pipes the faster you download (should be). The number of simultaneous connections also influences download/upload speed. That is the more connections there are the slower you will go. Cheers |

| 542761 | 2007-04-24 00:21:00 | Whys that? As Xtra limits FTP speeds on Go Large, The most I can get out of FTP download is about 20 - 30 KB/s & with HTTP I can get up to 100 KB/s & maybe 200KB/s (On a good day) |

Never used ftp so might try that on a download to see. I thought i was my connection being throttled:confused: |
