| 542235 | 2007-04-19 04:39:00 | To install SATA drivers, when you've installed Windows?? For 1 not 2 SATA's? If: 1: If a floppy isnt installed . 2 . If your system needs the SATA drivers, to install Windows . The prob is, a mate in Oz, has an ASUS K8V-X SE mobo, and brought a SATA (which he thought was SATA 1), It was SATA 2 . So, he jumpered it to SATA 1 . The prob now, is Win 2k wont install, the BIOS assumes he's running in RAID (He's not, its only 1 SATA and 1 20 GB IDE) . And if the floppy (Doesnt matter if the floppy and IDE are connected, or if the floppy, IDE and the SATA are connected), the system wont post . Which is why I'm asking if anyone has ever used a USB flash drive to install SATA drivers . Coz the errors he's getting are: Please insert media and press a key . When its in SATA 1 mode And Something to do with not enough disks to create . In normal mode (SATA 2 mode) . I take it, this has something to do with RAID, which as above he's not using . So, how exactly would you use a floppy if the system wont even post/turn on when u connect it? Any ideas? |

Couple suggestions: 1.Some BIOS's let you set SATA to emulate normal IDE to help with compatibility 2. sure the floppy cable isn't plugged in backwards? - can stop pc booting I've set up windows on 2 diff ASUS motherboards with SATA drive as primary without the need for any drivers. I think on one though I had to disconnect the IDE drive for windows setup to let me use the SATA drive, and then had to make the IDE drive unbootable to stop it trying to boot off that first. I re-connected it later with no problems The only time I've needed drivers is when I had a RAID array as the primary boot drive - ended up installing a floppy drive just for that against my original plan. If you're real techo it's possible to 'slipstream' drivers into a copy of the windows setup CD, but personally after researching this I decided it was too much hassle. |

| 542238 | 2007-04-19 05:29:00 | I have an A8V ASUS board & single sata drive, the Onchip SATA boot rom option needs to be ON, if I turn it off you can't access the SATA drive, as dugimodo said I had to disconnect the IDE drive to install XP & then reconnected the IDE after. You have to use a floppy & F6 or slipstream the drivers onto a 2000 cd (as dugimodo said) |

Same here, the PC here is an Asrock, and the previous one which was an ASUS didnt need SATA drivers either (with just one SATA) . Both installed XP without them . The only thing (according to the manual I downloaded to do with setting RAID up), was the Advanced>Onboard Devices config>Onchip SATA boot rom option, which according to the manual, enables RAID . It didnt matter whether this option was enabled or disabled . Yup, just confirmed with him in IRC, the floppy cable is the right way round . I've just asked him if theres an IDE compatibilty option in the BIOS (I dont think there was an option before) . BUT he's just flashed the BIOS to the latest BIOS, so the BIOS options may have changed . And if u press the TAB key on the post screen it brings up the RAID screen well it looks like this . It does show the 1 SATA here and its size . BUT, you still cant install 2k on it . He's just told me when the IDE hdd isn't connected thats when the not enough disks error appears . Most probably coz it think he's running in RAID, when he's not . |

| 542240 | 2007-04-19 07:56:00 | Hmm, looks like its fixed . In the end since it was bringing up this error: \i386\nt5\viamraid . sys unexpected error (4097) LINE 1211 IN D:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\oemdisk . c We figured out that the 2k setup was looking for another CD with the SATA drivers (or something on it) - (Which the 2K CD didnt have) . So, I told my mate to install another cdrom, and put the mobo cd in it . (The 2K CD was in the other CD) . Why you have to extract the SATA drivers from the cd to floppy, I dont know . The 2K setup didnt even look at the floppy! Then the 2K setup finally detected the SATA . Very strange way to get it to work, but it worked! I dont know if its coz he didnt want RAID, why he had to do it this way or not . |
