1414366 2016-01-12 20:02:00 Have started getting periodic error codes on one GMail email address in Outlook 2010.
"Your IMAP server closed the connection"
Unavailable Temporary System Error
Protocol: IMAP
Server: pop.gmail.com
Port: 993
Error Code: 0x800CCCDD
Ok have Googled and read all the stuff.
Is this occasional error worth trying to fix?!
Thanks

1414369 2016-01-12 23:03:00 Use something better than Outlook.

The error is Outlook specific and I think its a flaw created in their handling of IMAP. Either way, the issue is possibly client related.

1414370 2016-01-12 23:13:00 Looks like some people have fixed this error by running scanpst.exe, which is in the Outlook folder Speedy Gonzales (78)

Thanks but that is like if I take my Lexus into a local garage with a small problem and say that it is rubbish - get a Holden!
Am just going to ignore the periodic problem as the "fixes" that have read about could cause more grief.

1414373 2016-01-13 04:18:00 No, it's like if you take your Trabant into the local garage and they say that it is rubbish - get anything else! fred_fish (15241)
1414374 2016-01-13 04:28:00 No, I am saying the issue is how they handle IMAP and to be honest, it's up to them how they intepret it. It seems google's IMAP server sends a No Operation signal to the client when theres nothing to do, no mail, etc and Outlook choses to close the connection which should always be kept alive, which IMAP is suppose to be. There's not meant to be a check for mail call, as once its connected it should stay alive delivering mail as soon as its received. You could probably turn that check off because that is specific to POP but I am assuming it is due to Outlook trying to check a closed connection.

If you are determined to have it sorted, get onto the backs of MS to fix their software.

Cheers,

KK
