1414348 2016-01-11 22:52:00 Hi guys & gals (or as 'Himself' would say 'Youse yins'

I have an acquaintance who has a camera (type unknown, but most likely a Point & Shoot. They bought a new SD card at Dick Smiths, and took pics on their trip on the Transalpine train from Greymouth to Chch. Now they can't download their photo files. One of the local photography shops was unable to retrieve the files.
Having been successful using SanDisk's RescuePro I offered to try - (unsuccessful). I tried, with no useful result.

Two things I note:
1. Neither of my computers 'sees' the SD card
2. The new card wasn't formatted in the camera before use.

My question to you - is there something else I could try before we format the card?

And as always, TIA of your help. :)

1414349 2016-01-11 23:26:00 Can you leave the SD card in the camera, and connect the camera to the PC? the_bogan (9949)
1414350 2016-01-11 23:43:00 I'll give that a try - ta. But possibly that is what these people started with. I always use my Lexar card reader....

I forgot to mention, the SD card is a Dick Smith special. :(

1414352 2016-01-12 00:35:00 Of course!:) R.M. (561)
1414353 2016-01-12 00:49:00 Does the reader you tried support SDHC? If neither can see it this maybe the problem. That memory card is probably SDHC

And what version of windows (if it's windows) is it?

1414355 2016-01-12 00:56:00 It's a Lexar card reader - reads both Compact Flash and SD. Short answer - don't know!

Oh - and I tried another card reader on my laptop - don't know what brand... I could look! Right - Dick Smith - don't say a thing. It did work ok with my SD card.

1414356 2016-01-12 01:02:00 And no, you can't the pics now - although apparently they did see them for a while, and then they disappeared. I don't feel particularly optimistic. R.M. (561)
1414357 2016-01-12 01:04:00 Does the reader you tried support SDHC?

It does apparently.
