1414228 2016-01-10 07:26:00 Hi all

I have a fairly nice view from the apartment I live in, I was thinking it would be fun to set up a streaming live webcam to show the view.
I have no idea how to go about this. The only info I can find on the net talks about semi-professional, paid services (and many are quite expensive too).

Is there a way I can set something up for free? Could someone please let me know what I would need to do in terms of both hardware and software?
As far as hardware, is there anything suitable for mounting outdoors (on the deck) - ideally that is solar powered and waterproof so I don't have to connect power outside?

Thanks!

1414229 2016-01-11 06:56:00 I'd setup a PC with OBS (indoors) streaming to livestream.com and setup a webcam inside floodlight housing or something similar for waterproofing. icow (15313)

1414231 2016-01-12 01:46:00 Oh, I see livestreaming basic account costs US $42 per month. For something that's just for fun I don't want to spend that much. Was hoping there was some free solutions out there? Chikara (5139)

Veetle: veetle.com

I think ustream used to offer free streaming but not anymore (?)

1414233 2016-01-12 07:02:00 May I suggest iSpyConnect.com, its security software that may have more features than you require but does a lot of what you are wanting to achieve.

That's software pretty much sorted, as for hardware... depends on how you want to store your video data. There are a lot of codecs to choose from to provide compression (smaller file sizes), but no matter the size, storage may always be a limiting factor. The above can save to cloud storage, YouTube, etc, so online options are available. You can access your video from literally anywhere given an always on internet connection or storing it online.

For more hardware advice, their site would better suit you, although outdoor and solar powered maybe a bit challenging but I guess not uncommon to the users there.

If you find the software suitable, be generous and donate, even a $1 is better than nothing, with over 2 million users who could possibly do that, it's definitely a living.

Cheers,

KK
