2015-12-26 10:06:00 | Hi, I recently used the upgrade to Windows 10 and downloaded it . I previously had Windows 7 . I use Calibre 2 . 47 . 0 as my ebook manager and now find that when I use the usb cable to connect my kindle to my pc and Calibre so that I can add books to my kindle the device does not show up in Calibre yet shows as drive F on my computer . When I connect the usb cable from kindle to pc I get the noise which indicates a connection and it shows in the Safely Remove Hardware area as Eject Amazon Kindle . When I try to open drive F it gives me this error message . . . . . F:\ The directory name is invalid . F:\ is not accessible . A device attached to the system is not functioning . I have swapped usb cords to see if that would make a difference, no joy . Can anyone help me solve my problem or know of another ebook manager that works with Windows 10 without problems . Thanks for any help received . David57

2015-12-26 18:25:00 | The evidence points to windows being the problem. This thread suggests either reinstalling windows or removing the USB storage drivers and allowing windows to reinstall them. www.mobileread.com Good luck.

2015-12-26 23:51:00 | I forgot to mention that I had previously reinstalled Windows 10 prior to my first post. I read through the thread trying the things mentioned. I found under device manager a yellow triangle under portable devices, I did the update driver which came back as the latest driver, did the scan for hardware changes nothing found and then I uninstalled the driver hoping windows 10 would search for a new driver when i reconnect my Kindle, nothing, I found a windows 10 driver for Kindle, downloaded and installed that, nothing. The Device Manager now shows the F:\ under Portable Devices without the yellow triangle however I still cannot get it to connect to Calibre. I have done the normal install and reboots after each function to no avail. I found a couple of the USB controllers updated drivers the Intel (R) 6 series/200...... I am not keen on reinstalling windows 10, just not sure which angle to take now......

2015-12-27 00:52:00 | You could also try running sfc /scannow at a command prompt (admin) | CliveM (6007) | |
2015-12-27 01:03:00 | under device manager a yellow triangle under portable devices This usually means it cant start the device / Driver. In Search type in Troubleshoot, open the windows trouble shooter, then under Hardware and Sound, Select Configure a Device. It may find the fault and auto repair it Or even run it in compatibility mode. 6892

2015-12-27 03:22:00 | No luck with recommendations from CliveM or Wainuitech. I have the original Windows 7 Home Premium disc which came with the pc, am I able to reinstate with Windows 7 and probably more importantly will it work. Can you advise which is the best way to reinstate using the disc, if you think it will get me back to my original state with Calibre and my Kindle. Thank you. David57

2015-12-27 03:55:00 | if you want to roll back to W7, as long as its been less than a month since upgrading. Clcik Start / Settings, updates and security - On the Left should be recovery - once clicked it should give you the option to roll back to the previous Install. BEFORE doing it though, make sure all data is backed up, as sometimes it doesn't work and you'll end up with a system that wont boot into w7 or w10.
