1407455 2015-08-26 20:32:00 All the funds are going to cleaning people now.
The govt funded cleaning crowd were giving her 1 hr a week before the new health issue.

Despite various hospital people trying their best and heaps of round and round, they could not get this increased to more during her recovery time.

I went down....and I was horrified.
The splashback(?) at back of sink in kitchen looked like the inside of a dirty oven.

The shower handle, hose, soap holder etc - all the stainless bits, were encrusted with soap scum buildup - literally. Thick as.
And mould.....

Likewise back of basin, window sills etc.

Now they do both have bad eyesight, even so, she was aware it wasn't being properly done.

With my brother I ended up painting kitchen, bathroom and toilet window sills etc in semi gloss anti mould.
I cleaned everything. Used a whole bottle of jif, 2 bottles of degreasing cleaners, half a bottle of Janola and destroyed 2 scrubbing things.....

Apparently the cleaning people do:

Vacuum but not move any furniture at all, not even kitchen chairs
Wipe sink - and only the sink - in bathroom, wash floor in bathroom.
Clean toilet bowl, seat and floor.

Wash kitchen floor, wipe benchtop - and only the benchtop - not surrounds, cupboards etc.

That one got fired and a new agency arranged.
I then heard the new agency had a bad reputation. Seemed to be true.

New woman arrives, immediately uses landline phone, then has 2 more calls via her cellphone.
Comments that the shower fitting must be new - it was so shiny. Doesn't clean it.

Does less than the above and leaves.

She was fired too.

And....even better....apparently funding is to be cut again - this not just for my mum, but anyone - to 1 hr a fortnight.

I have arranged a private cleaning firm to help while she recovers, agter that, well at least she will be able to move a bit more....see what happens then.

1407456 2015-08-27 05:18:00 Now I see why the 1 hr a fortnight thing....and only if you need personal care. If not, tough luck, you get nothing.

(More than just the Manawatu...)

Go the government.

1407457 2015-08-27 07:48:00 What surely not the government.

They are the government that can do no wrong remember, at least according to quite a few forum embers on here anyway.

1407458 2015-08-31 04:33:00 My mother was receiving 1 hour a week govt funded housework services - until she went in to have surgery for endometrial cancer.

I came down and was shocked to see the absolutely filthy state of the house.
She had Homecare first, then this was changed to Access.

Neither cleaned properly at all. Half ass would be a kind description.

The bathroom floor was OK, and the actual hand basin itself. Everything else in that room was encrusted to 1/4 inch thick with scum and mould.
Likewise the kitchen - the splashback looked like the inside of an oven - brown goo all over.

The Homecare manager woman was quite snotty when I spoke to her - saying they are there to ensure a healthy, hygienic environment - well thats healthy - or hygienic?

I hired Dream Team Cleaning from Napier instead and this will continue for a few weeks until I cannot afford it.
My mother has said of Dream Team:

She has never seen anything like the two ladies today.
there isn't anything at all that they didn't clean.
they "flew around the house, and ate it clean".
as they went, they asked if she was happy with the job and cleaned off the steps.

(She spent a good 25 mins going on to me about how they cleaned x, y, z)

I said are they like those OCD cleaners on TV and she said she'd just about say they are.
She spent ages going on how marvellous it was.
she will be very happy for them to return.

I realise the funding will change in September and my mum will no longer receive any funded cleaning help at all, but really........who cares? None of them did what they are employed to do at all, and from what I saw, it was a complete waste of govt money anyway.

Anyway, those in Hawkes Bay - this crowd does one off cleans too - so if any of your are in need of services - they are highly recommended.

1407459 2015-08-31 04:56:00 Glad you found some good cleaners to help her out. inphinity (7274)
1407460 2015-08-31 05:14:00 I have been told similar. If you can shower/bath yourself you don't get Home Help with cleaning. PJ Poppa John (284)
1407461 2015-08-31 06:43:00 Not always PJ. Young chap next door (87) gets cleaning done once a week since he had a minor stroke 2 years ago. He doesn't get help for showering.

The rules change on September 25th.
news has only reported this to be Manawatu, but Hawkes Bay is also affected. The current lot have told me, 1 hr a fortnight, and banged on about showering etc.....this is because this is the other rule - no housework unless personal care is needed to.
Govt has decided it all costs too much and hence another round of cuts.

Anyway....they were useless.......I'll just pay this private lot until I can't afford to. She should be reasonably better by then, and perhaps just a one off clan every now and then thereafter will suffice.

Not for spring cleaning, not for cleaning ovens. You also have to remember these staff are on little more then min wage.

Wow. It was not already a mess. I was there when my dad died and it sure wasn't that bad then.
It was neglect.....you expect them to wipe it down - they didn't - hence the build up of grime etc.
