1406583 2015-08-18 06:46:00 It's like this as I see it: All of the features, bells and whistles if you like, that MS incorporate into the OS, will be used by people, but not all of the people will use all of the features.

So there should be much more choice in what features are installed, including browser, players, viewers, speech control, tiles, etc etc. Leave it to people to decide.

Back in the browser war days we had MS adamantly claiming that Internet Explorer was so integrated into the system that it could not be removed, as part of its bid to displace Netscape.

Then along came clever people who pulled the OS apart and came up the 98Lite: www.litepc.com

So to me there appears no reason why Windows 10 couldn't be offered in modular form so as to allow features to be selected.

Quoting as an instance:

The CEO of Mozilla, Chris Beard, wrote an open letter to Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella on July 30, saying, "The update experience appears to have been designed to throw away the choice your customers have made about the Internet experience they want, and replace it with the Internet experience Microsoft wants them to have."

1406584 2015-08-18 07:07:00 Yes I really can't understand why people hi-jack my thread about what they like about Windows 10 and turn it into a disertation on the history of computers and office practice. Digby (677)

What are you trying to achieve?

Less disk footprint?

Less memory usage?

Something else?

An open whinging letter questioning Firefox users intelligence to choose their browser defaults has nothing to do with this .

1406590 2015-08-18 07:31:00 Yes I really can't understand why people hi-jack my thread about what they like about Windows 10 and turn it into a disertation on the history of computers and office practice. Theres a lot more complaints all over the internet than good points.

If only good new points were listed ther wouldn't be many pages. 1 actually.

98% of the "good points" are not really new, they have been there all the time, just located in a different place.

I've just gone to the start of this thread, do you know haw many "new" options, are actually listed that have not been in previous OS's ? -- None / Zero / Zip / Nada (they have been there in previous OS's,just people forget or don't know about them). Everything else is a revamp of what has already been there in the past. Excluding any new Apps, like 3D Builder & phone companion.

About the only "new" items are Cortana - when it will work in NZ and Edge Browser , theres the 2% to add to the 98% above :)

The "bad" is the advertising that's offered by default.
