1406551 2015-08-17 08:31:00 I must say the weather has greatly improved since I installed W10. And, when it is not updating itself, it seems to play youtube videos better.

1406552 2015-08-17 08:32:00 Please note I started this thread to talk about what you like (and maybe don't like) about Windows 10 After using it for a while. Not on installation problems. Quite surprised really at the laptop I just upgraded. Has a Celeron with 4GB RAM. Runs OK. Tried it on W7 and it ran good, installed 8.1 - Mistake there :D - then put W10 Home on it.

After about 5 hours of "sorting it self" the speed has now come back to What it was in W7. So guess you could say its better at handling lower Spec computers than W 8.1, just wish W10 it didn't take so long to settle down.

Not to sure why, but after running disk Cleanup and removing GB's of left over files and logs from upgrading it seems to make it run better.

1406553 2015-08-17 22:59:00 I tried keeping it on track

You did well.
I hope i was not too rude, but people with technical issues are better to post them in a technical thread or start a new one.

1406554 2015-08-17 23:13:00 In Win7 I had to make C bigger, because if setup created the 100 mb partition on this, it tried to boot from it after

In Win8 and 10 it was fine after Windows was installed

1406555 2015-08-17 23:14:00 The default video player works pretty well, haven't bothered replacing it yet but I will be because it has an annoying habit of minimising and pausing whenever you do something on another screen. VLC doesn't do that. But I am impressed with the format suppport and clean interface, it hasn't failed to play anything I've tried so far.
If it wasn't for my multitasking habits I'd be happy with it.

Also not sure if this is new to windows 10 (I have a feeling it isn't) but I just discovered how well it does dual screen spanned wallpaper. It looks pretty cool with an extra wide image spanning both screens.

I don't like edge, purely because browsing the net with no addons after being used to adblock+ and adblock+ popup blocker is a horrible experience. Until website owners and advertisers pull their heads in these things are almost mandatory.

1406556 2015-08-18 01:03:00 It would be really good if MS could just release a lean mean bare bones OS, with the option to install bells and whistles subsequently according to peoples individual wants and preferences.

My first reaction is to remove or ignore the bells and whistles in favour of the programs I know and am familiar with, eg FF instead of Edge, VLC instead of any built in players etc.
I can't really be bothered to find out if the built in players, viewers, and other features are any better than the ones I know work for me.

I suppose Windows 2000 was the nearest (next to MSDOS :) ) to plain vanilla OS, or Win 3.1.

1406559 2015-08-18 02:28:00 Please not get into Metro, Tiles, Start Menus etc.
Just day to day use!
What new features have you found ?

I have had Windows 10 for a few days now.

It seems to load and shut down faster.
I love the look of the Virtual desktops - but need to find out more on how to use them. That new icon at the left of the task bar. WOW.
I am having to redo all of my default programs.

In general I am very pleased that I upgraded.

Nothing about it we like on wife's pc, even shutdown doesn't work.

She would sooner have W7.

Well, cast your mind back to Windows 3.0/3.1, that was when Bill Gates said the internet would never catch on :)

To be able to dial out with a modem meant adding comport commands to system.ini file, loading your own winsock, installing your own browser and email client, and if you wanted to watch movies, or listen to music, or manage photos etc then programs had to be downloaded as extras.
