| 1414359 | 2016-01-12 01:25:00 | Try taking some more pics with the card/camera and see what happens to them Yes - I had that in mind, but they are away for a week's holiday. I was just checking to make sure there wasn't anything else I could do (to retrieve the pics) before reformatting and then starting all over again. From other experiences I have had, I suspect the 'not formatting' the card prior to first use may be part of the story. |

| 1414360 | 2016-01-12 06:37:00 | More info on the camera would be good. Might be using built in memory instead of the SD card. Also any information on the SD card too would help. I think you could have success reading it from a booted Linux Live distribution (if you don't normally run Linux), since its quite comprehensive in understanding most drive layouts/partitions and file systems used with the usual 'disks' software it comes with. It should give you enough information to sort the issue, back up the photos and then get the SD card formatted by the camera or use 'disks' to format it to something universally readable. An alternative would be using a 'disks' like program in Windows, I've seen a name of one mentioned in these forums that sounds like it can reveal information about the disk, may even allow mounting of the card, but I have never used it before. Maybe someone else can hint that name, it was used to recover a destroyed partition table if I recall correctly. Cheers, KK |

I've used it in the past when in difficulties! I had a look in Disk Management - it didn't really help much, except to confirm that my 'puter wasn't seeing the SD card. Thanks for your comments - appreciated! |

| 1414362 | 2016-01-13 00:07:00 | "before reformatting and then starting all over again. " Throw that dodgy SDCARD in the bin, unless you want to go through this process again next month with that card. Why even trust it now ? :-) With your NEW card, you could format it from the camera's system menu , at least that will give a compatible format. also, as noted above, some card readers wont read some newer SD types. Shouldnt be an issue unless the card reader is quite old though |
