1407335 2015-08-25 08:10:00 Amazing situation! Apart from the ridiculous $3000 treadmill - top of the range. News item TV1 - she has "Anxiety" and irritable bowel syndrome. Why is she even on a benefit?. And how will this machine help? She didn't appear too disabled on TV, while walking / jogging very well.
Taxpayers - suckers again ?

Absolutely, and don’t forget WE pay the wages of the Social Security Appeal Authority.

I must be in a Time Warp and it’s April 1st. :crying

1407338 2015-08-25 23:11:00 I have heard of beneficiaries qualifying for hearing aids, getting grants for around $1000 or more. But I think they pay the grant back. But for a exercise machine, wondering if it was cheaper than any of her ongoing medical treatment costs, which may have had no effect. But then had to be something compelling for her to be approved, or that MSD's regulations somehow permitted alternative treatment, i.e. exercise of any means.

i mean Paula Bennett ranted once, where accommodation supplement, could be somewhat abused as a rort (her claim). where several WINZ tenants could claim for the one household. But yet National - MSD/HNZ permitted that scenario.

No they can't, you have to show either your rental agreement or the actual mortgage papers.
Also, you get a maximum for health things, there is a list on the WINZ website.....www.workandincome.govt.nz

Not more than $1000 and doesn't mean you'll get that either.
It's $2,008.76 for funeral grant yet the max my mum got was $700.

1407340 2015-08-26 22:36:00 I think the issue is, that woman is just stupid, with a sense of entitlement to taxpayers money.

Who in their right mind buys a $3000 treadmill, off some late night TV commercial . Has she not heard of trademe, plenty of hardly used treadmills for sale there.

Treadmill = walking, could she not just go for a walk around the street ?

From trademe you have to actually pay for items.
