1406911 2015-08-18 22:03:00 I see the head of DHL Aus has come out & said its unworkable, it will just create a huge ever increasing backlog
of goods waiting to be checked at the border . Just too much coming in .

1406912 2015-08-18 22:42:00 Ahhhh, but it will solve the unemployment problem when every available person is conscripted to search our boarders for the last cent. :D B.M. (505)
1406913 2015-08-18 23:04:00 I can see it now on tv Border Patrol.

Two customs officers and their supervisor. This computer part is worth $20, shall we charge GST on it?

1406914 2015-08-18 23:06:00 I'd like to hear some local retailers defend their very high margins on shoes and car parts etc. Digby (677)

I can, and have bought shoes in NZ for $20 (the warehouse) , so bugger all margins on those

I also buy $150 shoes, they are from shoe stores : they have to pay wages ,2-3 staff for 7 days, 8 hours a day + rent + other expenses. thats alots of money to try & recoup from a few shoe sales
That same shoe shop also sells $50 shoes (at lower margins), so the $150 shoe is a luxury item with very few sales, so of course it will have a much higher margin.

Just what margin is acceptable, are they not allowed to cover costs, make a profit & make the business worthwhile ?

No, we need double that because we have new forms and they are to be filled in in both English and Maori.

Under the “Treaty” you know. ;)

Yes, but why do shop in the USA sell them cheaper?
They also have to buy the shoes, pay rent and pay staff!

and because we all know that no shops in the US sell expensive shoes with high profits . There are no $1000 shoes or handbags in the US shops:-)
Again, I can buy shoes in NZ for $20 , or $200
