1413992 2016-01-04 06:35:00 Hi All

Asus laptop, W10, Live mail.

I have a Hotmail acct on here, but it wont receive. I have pop3 etc in the server URL. What should it be? Thanks. PJ

1413993 2016-01-04 07:57:00 Incoming mail server – pop3.live.com
Outgoing mail server – smtp.live.com
User name – your Hotmail or Live email address
Incoming Server (POP3) – 995
Outgoing Server (SMTP) – 587
Also, check This server requires and encrypted connection

NOTE: hotmail uses live.com regardless if you have a hotmail or Live account.

1413994 2016-01-05 06:45:00 W...I have screwed up somewhere. I set the Asus up as you suggested but still wouldn't work.
I deleted the account then put it back in again as it is the access. to the computer
From bad to worse, I have lost the internet connection to the Asus. All the appropriate lights are lit on the modem. Another laptop plus this HP are working ok.
What have I done . PJ

1413997 2016-01-06 04:16:00 I deleted the account then put it back in again as it is the access. Assuming you are referring to the email account - that wont have anything to do with the wireless now not connecting ( or shouldn't)

In the Icon Tray ( clock area) Assuming you are using wireless - Click on the Wireless connections, ( looks like steps) make sure its scanning and showing any networks within range - if it is, select yours and reconnect.

If theres nothing in range at all double check you haven't turned it off by mistake -- usually along the top in the F keys ( could be else where as well) there should be a Wireless button, most have a LED shining, orange can mean off, white or blue = on, make sure its not turned off. -Colours may differ.
You's be surprised how many service calls I get with people saying there wireless isn't working, I ask if its actually turned on ( describing as above) Yesssssssssss --- get there, press the button and away it goes :waughh: Was turned off all the time -- I did ask ;)

Re the Mail account -- Once back on the internet create a new account, use the wizard, generally you enter your name, email, and password -- The mail account ( being hotmail) should do the rest automatically.

"should do the rest automatically"........... PJ doesn't do smooth automatic processes!! Yeah, Well I say "Should" for one simple reason. Can only go on the information provided.

Many times when trying to sort something on customers computers, you do all the right moves, yet what ever you're trying to fix doesn't work  THEN after looking for a long time for something thats not right, they tell you -- oh btw - I only changed <inset what they did> that wont make any difference would it ? ------- grrrrrrrr. :annoyed:
Once they tell you what they did then you got all the info.( its happens in this forum a LOT as well) only get part of the information. Doing something minor a person 'forgets" to mention can cause a lot of grief.

Sometimes you just have to be in front of the computer to see the actual problems. Thats why in the above post I said to check the wireless wasn't turned off by mistake on the keyboard. ( cant see through the screen) :)

Like the problem I described in another post - their internet wouldn't go - No one had touched anything, yet somehow Mr nobody had changed all the leads about.

1414000 2016-01-06 20:24:00 Yep, all sounds familiar.

BTW, I was in NO way being judgmental with my "shoulds" comments as we have all been caught out with the "obvious" answer not working hence the qualifiers we have learnt to use.

Hope my comments weren't taken wrongly.

Often what "should" happen and does happen can be two different things . Its when someone doesn't tell you something they have done, may seem minor at the time but causes other problems, that's when its a bit confusing . Its okayyyyyyyyyyyy, what have I forgotten ??? :D

Back to work, got an important job to complete .
