1413574 2015-12-30 19:59:00 Hi guys and Happy New Year, to you all :clap

You probably already hear this, but do you mind if I relay my fiber problems?

Had fiber connected about 4 month ago.

The install guy said unlike ADSL it will have constand speed, not up and down.

WE started with the 30/10 plan, I think it was and we went from ADSL2+ speed of max 8 to just over 10.

Not much improvement.

After ringing and hasleling they changed us to the 100/20 plan, now in the morning we get about 30 and afternoon as high as 97.

Latest is the thinking going upto the 200 plan, at no cost for 12 months.

This was applied for on the 7 December and still waiting for it.

A Spark gay rang yesterday and was asking me about all our problems, nice I thought and he said he would ring back when he had some answers.

Well he did ring back and asked me to ring the fiber guys in Hamilton.

Guy in Hamilton said yes was setup on 7 December and had no idea why not done.

I asked him would it make much difference in speed and he thought we might get 130.

So I have two questions that I'm still awaiting answers on and hoping someone out there can help, please.

Is it true that fiber still has massive speed changes and is it worth changing to the 200 plan?

:thanks for listening,

Ian

1413575 2015-12-30 21:16:00 We have been with MyRepublic for 12 months on a 100/20 plan.
Speeds were a constant 95/19 at any time of the day up until about 3 months ago.
We now get a constant 105/21. Doesn't matter what time of the day, or day of the week.

Yes I have been thinking about, MyRepublic, but stuck with a 12 month contract with Spark.
next week/ next year I will have to work on a detailed letter explaining all the problems we've had, last 4 month and telling sparky I wana be released from contract.
Think thats only way out of it all.
You must have been with MyRepublic from almost the start.
I've had talks, with them and they are our #1.
Thanks for your comments.

1413577 2015-12-30 22:29:00 I like your comment " A Spark gay rang yesterday.....". I'm not really familiar with Papamoa, but are you supposed to get the same speeds as Tauranga? How far are you from the exchange? We are with Orcon, on a 30/10 plan, and that's what we get, constantly, no variation I have ever noticed. We have been very pleased once they got our phone line sorted which took about 6 weeks. But I blame Chorus for that. Richard (739)
1413578 2015-12-31 00:49:00 Can't really help other than to say it's almost certainly not distance related. If you are within range fibre works at it's full speed, it doesn't slow down over distance like copper does.
The main things than can effect speed are the ISP's backhaul capacity, the amount of customers sharing it, and the hardware at either end. All of which are outside your ability to do anything about really so you are at the mercy of the ISP for any speed issues.

1413579 2015-12-31 01:33:00 We been told that with fiber we are now under the Tauranga main exchange, across the road from McDonalds Cameron Road. ianhnz (4263)
1413580 2015-12-31 01:39:00 That speed issue is just not right. You definitely should get at least 94/20 ish from a 100/20 plan. My Orcon is 94/23 all the time. linw (53)
1413581 2015-12-31 02:08:00 No point going to a 200mbps plan unless all your network equipment in the house is gigabit.
This has been brought up before, and it still makes me laugh, when I see people say that since you are paying for the 100/20 plan you should get around 94-95/18-20.
With fibre there is no reason why you shouldn't get the speed you are paying for, if not more.
We are on 200/200 and constantly get close to 210/210 anytime of the day.

For almost the last 4 months I've been on at them to get it fixed, all to no avail.
I've given up, so next few days I'll have to start search my diaries and emails for all the required info.
Hope to have it all done mid next week and send it off.
Hoping to get my contracts released so I can go, elsewhere.

1413583 2015-12-31 02:30:00 WE have Sparks latest modem, used in Dunedin for the 1 Gb fiber, changed all ethernet cables to cat 6 ONT to modem and both computers on this, also had both computers serviced and running on Win 10.
We have done everything we can do.
