1407764 2015-09-02 00:55:00 M$ is so last century, grow up.

your webpage is reporting Edge as Chrome as they are not doing any feature detection, just sniffing the UA string

Microsoft Edge UA string:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.135 Safari/537.36 Edge/12.10136

1407765 2015-09-02 01:14:00 The fact remains, that without extensions Edge is unusable. Why doesn't Microsoft concentrate on the OS and leave browsers, mail clients, photo viewers etc to the specialists in those fields? mzee (3324)

Edge is not unusable. I use it every day. Sure I would like extensions too, and they are coming.

Microsoft builds a browser, mail client, photo viewer because they are core to what a user expects an operating system to do.

Exactly. Pretending to be something it isn't is not going to gain it many friends....

Perhaps because the OS needs an IE or and Edge baked in so that, on first boot of the OS, users can download a proper browser like Chrome or Firefox....

If they didn't provide IE/Edge they would have to preinstall another browser for this purpose...

And M$ (for the benefit of nmercer) are not known for picking winners...

1407770 2015-09-02 03:03:00 Exactly. Pretending to be something it isn't is not going to gain it many friends....Sounds like you don't understand the reasons for doing it. Every browser pretends to be another browser. Many modern websites are sniffing the user agent for Chrome or Firefox to determine whether to use modern features or not, and if the test fails they fall back to a basic version. Microsoft have finally caught up with standards but the websites aren't being updated as often, so modern browsers (not just Microsoft's) pretend to be other browsers to fool the sites into providing an optimal user experience. Have a look at any user agent; most of them say "like Gecko". ;) Google Analytics is guilty of this flaw. They report Edge as Chrome, but Statcounter correctly identifies Edge as Edge. pcuser42 (130)

But the issue is that Edge is NOT providing the user with an optimal experience.

I can't use it in this instance because it wants to install a Chrome extension that isn't compatible with Edge! Nothing optimal about that experience!

Nothing optimal about that experience!Because the website is sniffing the Edge user agent and finding "Chrome", and therefore thinks you're using Chrome. The website SHOULD be updated to not do this. Browser sniffing is why the user agents of all browsers is a mess in the first place. pcuser42 (130)
