543830 2007-04-24 10:46:00 Arrived home tonight to a problem, PC wouldn't boot and just displayed the XP loading screen for over 30 mins and the same when shut down or reset. I've booted it into safemode and run CCleaner and an antivirus scan which came back ok. I've also run chkdsk from inside partition majic and it found a couple of file system errors which it corrected. Rebooting then produced the same issue it wouldn't boot.

I've now gone to last good config which has booted however Spybot has reported a registry change of session manager and a deleted value. Something tells me I should tell it to ignore this change, as a quick google doesn't show anything relevant.

543831 2007-04-24 12:00:00 Kind of the same thing happened to me 2 days ago except it would come to the welcome screen and not let me log on. Turns out it was a program called Spy Catcher and as soon as I uninstalled it everything went back to normal. Try uninstalling any newly installed software or wait for one of the wizards to turn up for more advice:d beeswax34 (63)
543832 2007-04-24 13:38:00 Don't think Spybots resident Shield is all that great myself, the changes it's detecting are probably just you reverting to the last known good config.

sounds like you fixed the problem anyway, I was going to suggest system restore - not that it's ever helped me fix anything but it frequently helps a friend of mine when he gets diallers ( don't ask ).

The only question now is what caused this - could just be a glitch in the file system but just to be safe maybe you can con speedy into doing the hijack this thing he always seems to reccommend

543833 2007-04-28 03:05:00 Try un-plug all USB devices when you boot and see if Windows XP goes through. This issue could sometime occur if you have removable USB devices plugged-in to your PC while booting or shutting down. Shire (10317)
