| 543760 | 2007-04-24 05:18:00 | another way that I don't hear mentioned a lot is spybots startup tool, switch to advanced mode - tools - startup, then go through the list and untick what you want to get rid off or delete if you're sure. The only advantage over msconfig is the descriptions (you should make sure you've updated them first) which are accesed by clicking the grey bar with the arrows on it. Spybot knows the function of a lot of otherwise mysterious startup entries and will tell you wether they are required or not. Green entires are known good programs ant-virus etc, bold items have been changed since spybot ran last, unticking something prevents it from running but doesn't delete it so you can test to see if it causes any problems for a while before deleting something. There are other better tools, but I like this one for it's simplicity and helpful descriptions. some entries have multiple descriptions and if windows is installed in anywhere besides c:\windows may flag some system files as trojans etc so beware |
