| 543541 | 2007-04-23 09:21:00 | I have installed Win ME on an old computer(Pentium 600 I think) for my 10 yr old to access mini clip games on the internet. That was the intention anyway. When Internet Explorer starts up I get a DNS error message. I can access the router thru 10.1.1.1 but there my knowledge stops. There are no firewalls installed(but will be) and I have set the DNS Server addresses to those supplied by my ISP. Anybody help?:stare: |

Use DHCP to configure everything at your client PC have the settings come from your router. |

| 543543 | 2007-04-23 09:34:00 | Silly question maybe but can you access the internet from other machines? From memory there was a network problem with ME that Microsoft released a patch for. Will have a look and post back. If you open a command prompt and try ping 66.102.7.104 and see if you get a response. DON'T change the IP address range because if you are with Xtra they won't help you at all if you ever call them up! |

Can access internet from 3 other machines which connect via wireless to router but Win ME machine can't. It is plugged in via Ethernet cable. The ping thing all seems Ok. Sent 4 Received 4 Lost 0 etc Cheers. |

Use DHCP to configure everything at your client PC have the settings come from your router. Tried it from a fresh install of ME with no settings added but no go.Then tried inputting DNS server addresses as given to me by ISP, still no go. Yes it is a D-Link router but 3 other machines(XP) connect no worries. |

| 543546 | 2007-04-23 12:11:00 | I've found the Microsoft patch for networking in ME but the page is not available for some reason. I'll see if I can find it from somewhere else. |

| 543548 | 2007-04-23 21:34:00 | I'm sure to get flamed for this but... Try running the network setup wizard and make sure you choose the obtain an address automatically option - thats the DHCP that someone mentioned You can do it manually but I don't have Me handy to run through the steps |

Tried that but still no good. Taken drastic action, formatted and reinstalled Win 98(Going backwards here...), now... I have a bit of internet access. Can get to a few sites, Dick Smith,Yahoo no problem, Trademe,Google and others still no go. Connection only worked after inputting DNS Server addresses but could these still be the cause of the problem? There are three addresses in there now, which were given to me quite a while ago by my ISP. I might check with them anyway cos they changed them once without letting me know and I lost my connection. |
