| 543637 | 2007-04-25 12:43:00 | zcc, I was downloading torrents at steady 700KB/s at times on sunday, multiply that by 8 = 5600... plenty fast! The fair-use policy is simply the best Ive ever seen! |

| 543638 | 2007-04-25 20:08:00 | Has anyone worked out the theoretical maximum monthly data usage under the plan? (i.e accounting for the slowdows)? | somebody (208) | ||
| 543639 | 2007-04-25 20:52:00 | www.ihug.co.nz For the sake of arguement, lets say you have yourself a multi-threading http download thats 150GB big, I dunno what it is, but you're downloading it okay. Lets say you're stuck on 64kbps because you've just downloaded 7 gigs in one day, so we'll pretend you start 'the month' on 64kbps Now, on 64Kbps you can download about 600-650MB a day Lets say you're stuck on that for 3 days = 1.8GB Next you're back up to 2mbps because you've done between 500MB & 1GB Thats around 20GB you can download in one day if it were maxed (I think). This is a 4-day cycle of around 22GB, or lets round it down to 20GB We'll average 30 days a month, so thats 7 complete 'cycles', and a little more, so that's 7x20GB = 140GB... And here I had other PF1 members telling me you can only download about 15-20gb on it in a month and that Xtras 40GB is more appealing ;) Lets average it out, each day you download 1.5GB because you want to stay at 512kbps, then that's fine, you'll still get a decent 45GB easy! What if you have a few downloading sprees, you've got 15GB you need downloaded overnight? If you're on full-speed then thats not an issue by any stretch of the imagination! 15GB is nooo problem at all! In a nutshell, you could download a _lot_ ;) What if you only did it on days where you have max-speed? If in 1 day you can get 20GB on a 2mbps connection, lets just say you're at my place and you get pretty darn close to the 8mbps ADSL connects at (I think Im connected at around 7800 right now). We'll triple that rounding, just for the sake of it and you're suddenly doing 60GB for every 4-day stretch there is! Provided the next 3 days you download nothing you're back full-speed again, so 60GB a day x7 cycles in a month = 420GB Please oh please somebody tell me my math has been correct :P |

The fair-use policy is simply the best Ive ever seen! lucky bugga... I never get that level, best is about 400k for sourceforge on a good day. I get good results from speed tests but crap from REALWORLD activity... like everyone else I think. Go large will do me for now...:badpc: |

| 543641 | 2007-04-26 12:03:00 | um.. if changing tolls is not too annoying i might consider changing to ihug then since they got their promotion on now too..might be worth it so why does so many people recommend xnet when ihug is pretty decent already? right now ihug looks better to me... |

| 543642 | 2007-04-26 20:37:00 | Not many people know how good the Broadband3 plan is, thats why, to many it sounds like a cheap way of throttling you back. Little to they know... ;) Tolls? We never make tolls here, so one day I rang up and just changed over. Its no different for us :) zcc, Im less than 250m from the exchange, in real-world tests I seem to hit the jackpot :D |

| 543643 | 2007-04-27 09:11:00 | After about 3 days use of iHug's plan 3 I'm not impressed. It's a nightmare managing/timeing my downloads. The only reason I chose a plan like this was so I can download lots of files thru Bit Torrent. Problem is all ISP's count uploading too, so I havn't had full speed. I use Azureus and have been playing around with the settings so I can download fast and limit my download/upload window so web surfing and gaming isn't affected. No luck so far...any ideas? What I really want is a plugin for Azureus that stops my download/uploads after a certain MB limit is reached......ha ha! I can be my own ISP! |

You can schedule times for fullspeed/limited throughout the entire week. Stop your torrent from uploading after XXmins etc etc. As ive said before, im on an old plan, but one that has full speed download. Ive never had the pleasure of 64kbps, just doesnt seem to kick in. Not terribly worried about that haha. |

| 543645 | 2007-04-28 23:54:00 | DONT use Azureus while gaming, thats just dumb, the CPU / memory usage is insanely high by comparison to others like uTorrent. Make sure you're port-forwarded correctly too, and yes, use uTorrent |
