543161 2007-04-24 07:21:00 And did u go into the BIOS to see if this bootsector virus protection is off / disabled?

Before trying to install XP again?

543162 2007-04-24 07:54:00 No.
It did install once and worked ok and was using PC one day and next thing Blue Screeen error.
Then would even Reinstall.
Is it Possible to now get to BIOS while Booting before Blue Screen.
Thanks

543163 2007-04-24 07:56:00 Press F10, or del or F1 / F2 (hold one of these down). After u reboot.

I dont know what key u press to get into the BIOS on a Compaq.

If it shows u the hard drive entries / master /slave , time date etc, then yup it is the BIOS.

The BIOS isnt part of Windows, or part of the Windows install screen.

Its hardware based (part of the mobo), not software

543166 2007-04-25 03:15:00 Roconises Drives as Slaves not Masters.
Change them round but makes no difference still found as Slaves

I believe I had this error once when the SATA drivers were uninstalled prior to upgrade.. for some stupid reason windows then couldn't access itself and died.

But that's probably not it, so I'm going with Faulty RAM or HDD.

Try memtest: www.memtest.org

543168 2007-04-25 03:20:00 The jumpers on the hard drives themselves must be jumpered as slaves then.

If u have more than 1 hdd, jumper the one u want to install Windows on as Master. And the other as Slave.

Just dont put cd's or dvds on the same IDE connection as a hard drive.

How many hard drives and cd's/dvd's are installed / have u got?

Also check the BIOS it maybe under the boot menu, or where u save the BIOS setting the boot sector or virus option. Make sure its off.

If the hdds in the system were / are only getting detected as Slaves not Masters, theyre most probably alll jumpered to Slave (if u have more than 1 hdd), which is most probably whats confusing the install, on what hdd to install Windows on.
