544710 2007-04-27 05:49:00 How do i disable the startmenu? Mirddes (10)
544711 2007-04-27 06:06:00 Can you clarify that a bit more. Do you mean you wish to stop people clicking on the Start button and accessing the menus? Or do you mean the startup menu, like programs that get automatically loaded at startup?

What OS?

544712 2007-04-27 13:18:00 windows XP pro,
i dont use the startmenu, ever. i dont have anything in it, except an empty startup folder in the all programs menu.

i have breifly named shortcuts to about 68 different things in the windows directory for easy access via the run command; ut for utorrent, wow for world of warcraft, mo for firefox, cnc3 for command and conquer, etc...
as for turning my computer off, i can do that via the run command, or via the taskmanager, or i can rip the power cable out (which is what i do if i EVER turn it off, which hardly ever happens).
basicly i think it would look cool not to have a startmenu.

a registry entry i can edit would be preferable.

also, how do i remove the recycle bin from the desktop?

544713 2007-04-27 13:42:00 Right click on an empty space of your taskbar/start menu (where the windows are minimized), select "Lock the taskbar". That should unlock it, then giving you the option to and drag it down, hiding it from view when your mouse runs over the edge where the taskbar meets the desktop. Jams (1051)
544714 2007-04-27 13:48:00 i still use the taskbar...

Should remove the bin.

Or: here (www.tweakxp.com)

Do a search in Google/Yahoo for remove start menu in XP.

And just create a shortcut on the desktop and use the shutdown command, so u can log off.

544716 2007-04-27 22:54:00 Out of interest, if you disable the Start menu how will you get to the Run command? Shortcut on the Desktop? FoxyMX (5)
544717 2007-04-28 00:59:00 So you do most things via command line or shortcuts?

Ever considered using Linux, seems like it may suit you

544718 2007-04-28 01:22:00 win+R brings up the run command.

Ive considered using linux on several ocassions but i play too many games for linux to be viable.
i have linux on my teamspeak server.
if i cant get rid of the startmenu, can we atleast get rid of the all programs menu?
