544225 2007-04-25 08:17:00 Hi all,

Just wondering what is happening here: I am in Thailand at the moment and have had ADSL installed (128mb/256mb at 590baht/month - the cheapest plan available from TT&T (max speed here is 2mbps from TT&T) tested on McAfee's website as actual speed of 100K).

The modem is connected to the phone jack with a splitter that allows a telephone to share the wall jack but this is the only phone in the house that works. If any other phone is plugged in elsewhere in the house the PPP light dissapears from the modem.

From the information I have gathered so far, the line filters that are supposed to be installed on all phones are only to improve the voice quality for those speaking on the phone. So, will installing filters solve the problem of the ADSL modem not working too?

Cheers,
-John.

544228 2007-04-25 08:55:00 The filters prevent the phone from "absorbing" the ADSL high frequency signal, they allow only the voice frequencies to the phone while blocking the ADSL from the phone.

Only the ADSL modem should see the unfiltered line.

544229 2007-04-25 08:56:00 Everything connected to the phone line needs to be filtered, this also includes faxes, digital TV etc. Otherwise the modem may not pickup the ADSL signal on the phone line. Safari (3993)
