544319 2007-04-27 20:33:00 No, you cant delete the wmpnetwk file entry itself.

This file isnt in the startup anyway.

No, XP will still detect it if its a USB flash drive.

Whether you delete that WMP entry in startup or not.

It has nothing to do with the IE prob.

544320 2007-04-28 04:31:00 How exactly do I delete it?
And please, help me with the IE problem! It is really frustrating, I have to keep clicking on the window to stop it defocusing.

544321 2007-04-28 05:32:00 Run ccleaner then go to the tools/startup tab.

Highlight whatever then click on delete entry.

Have u installed ALL of the updates besides SP2 yet??

Thats most probably whats causing the probs, you're having.

Install the updates and install a firewall if u havent yet as well.

544322 2007-04-28 07:26:00 Here's a pic of what's on the startup in CCleaner:
img412.imageshack.us

I have most of the updates, but lately it won't let me get any more.
Chris815 (10270)
544323 2007-04-28 07:29:00 You can get rid of the bottom 2 .

Whatya mean it wont let u???

When u try, does it bring up errors or something?

How are u getting the updates?

Automatically, or going to the Windowsupdate site?

544324 2007-04-28 11:00:00 Every time I choose 'Express' on the Windows Updates site, it shows that green loading bar for about 15-20 seconds, and then gives me this:
img80.imageshack.us

I've tried many times to "Register or reinstall the files", but it doesn't work. It just goes back to the page with the 'Express' and 'Custom' options. I don't understand...

Create a new text file using Notepad or your favorite text editor and copy and paste the following lines into it:

%windir%\system32\net . exe stop bits
%windir%\system32\net . exe stop wuauserv
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 . exe %windir%\system32\atl . dll

%windir%\system32\net . exe start bits
%windir%\system32\net . exe start wuauserv

Save the file with a name of "WUREPAIR . CMD" someplace you will remember such as your Desktop or a directory like C:\TEMP including the quotation marks in the filename so the text editor doesn't accidentally save it with a . TXT file extension .

Run the WUREPAIR . CMD file from the Command Prompt (filename: CMD . EXE ) or by double-clicking on it .

And then go to start/run type this in

regsvr32 wuauserv . dll

Then see if the Windowsupdate site works .

What a drama just to get updates working . You can see why I don't use Windows .

Getting back to the IE problem, if it is IE7 why not uninstall it from Add/Remove programs and revert back to IE6
IE 7 does some strange things when used with XP they don't seem to play very nicely together .

Ahh, crap .
I followed your instructions, and in Command Prompt it kept coming up with all these boxes saying something like this:
. imageshack . us/img153/9339/goodbm3 . jpg" target="_blank">img153 . imageshack . us

And then after a few of those, I saw this:
. imageshack . us/img91/5969/ffsgt2 . jpg" target="_blank">img91 . imageshack . us

So I just continued, and command prompt did its thing . When it finished, I went to RUN and put in that line, which gave me this:
. imageshack . us/img81/4424/crapph5 . jpg" target="_blank">img81 . imageshack . us

What the hell is going on?!
