| 544007 | 2007-04-25 08:13:00 | Couldn't get IE proper to install under Wine; Could not download files, check your internet connection...blah blah blah, or some such. Will do some research on that. Earlier I successfully installed the latest IEs4 Linux, but the PS Elements installer could not see it, so I tried the beta version (supposed to fix problems with IE dependent windows programs), which installed but doesn't work and, PS Elements still does not see it (I was hoping the installed files would be enough to con the PS E Installation routine. Back to the drawing board, however while I'm in the mood; A pox on Adobe for making PS Elements dependent on IE and a pox and the fleas of a billion camels to infest MS for making such a crappy piece of software then making all sorts of other software rely on it to function and for that, a million fleas are reserved for Bill. | 544008 | 2007-04-25 08:29:00 | Have you checked out this page (appdb.winehq.org) for installing IE6-SP1 Apparently IE7 is garbage, there is also a link on this page to the IE6 installer + bugs (which usually contain answers) Apparently 5.5 works even better if you can get the installer as written about here (appdb.winehq.org) (tested on Ubuntu too ) From this second link... Additional Comments I did need to install a few things to get IE to work. I followed the instructions in the following URL: gentoo-wiki.com |

Funny thing about Wine, the link in menu does not invoke it, the only things that works is via a terminal, this seems to be at variance to what others experience. Is it? I'll have a look at installing winetools if the I can't get the IE/PS Elements combo working. If you, or anybody else has had experience of winetools, I'd be interested to hear your views. I'm wary of adding another layer, when I haven't solved the original issues. |

| 544011 | 2007-04-26 10:34:00 | Quick update. I managed to get the IEs4 Linux ie6 working. The ie6 desktop link and one within the ies4linux directory where pointing to a scrip file in home/zzum/bin that wasn't launching the .exe. I found a similar scipt file within home/zzum/ies4linux/bin that would not work if I ponted the links to that, but did when I poped it in home/zzum/bin. Still no go with the Elements installation: zzum@1[~]$ wine /media/cdrom/autoplay.exe err:exec:SHELL_ExecuteW cannot set directory L"Z:\\Adobe Photoshop Elements\\" If I use the zzum@1[~]$ / wine /media/cdrom/"adobe photoshop elements"/setup.exe I still get the "you need Internet Explorer 4 blah blah blah" error. So, I'll have another crack at installing IE5.5 or 6 straight into wine, though most of the advice is to use IEs4 Linux. |

I've never quite got used to the interface, menus and tools . I guess I would, like anything, with practice, but it's a productivity thing at the mo until I set some serious time aside to learn Gimp adequately . This is the last app (or The Gimp) I need to make the leap all the way . Rather ironically, colleagues who have recently down graded to Office 2007 and/or Vista, are having collaboration and server rejection issues, whereas, lil ole me using OOo doesn't have a problem . Ok, I'm about done fiddling with IE, off to have a fiddle with the Gimp . |
