545680 2007-04-30 08:55:00 I am really frustrated and annoyed with this software . I want to use it because it can make movies into VCDs (which Windows Movie Maker doesnt do) but it is fraught with bugs . Prior to restoring my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000, 2ghz Centrino, 1gb Ram) I had it installed and used it with varying success - one thing it couldnt do with photos was save a photo after cropping - pretty elementary in the uselessness department if you ask me .

Last night I tried reinstalling this software since I want to make a VCD from a movie I made on my digital camera, but the dvd/cd burning software it is bundled with is somehow corrupted . I could edit my video just fine but when it couldnt successfully open the software it uses for burning a disc .

Furthermore, to top it all off, it is interfering with Microsoft Word, which was preinstalled on my machine when I bought it from Dell . When Roxio prompted me to restart (to finish installation of Easy Media Creator) a window appeared telling me that Word needs to be installed and since I haven't the factory disc with me at present (I am overseas), I am constantly getting this window whenever I Startup or open Word . It is really annoying since it works fine after I click cancel on the installation window .

I tried Repairing the installation -no change . I tried removing and reinstalling - still doesnt work .

I hope PCWorld isn't handing out "World Class" awards to software such as this anymore (which it "won" in 2004:rolleyes: ) .

Any decent alternative products I could consider for video editing?

545681 2007-04-30 09:04:00 Sounds like CD Creator 6 . Which included DirectCD .

I think thats what it was called previously . Before V7 .

It went fine before XP SP2, the more updates I installed for XP, the worse CD Creator / DirectCD (more DirectCD) got .

It made more coasters . So, it went in the bin .

There's Nero / Nerovision but its not free .

There's this (http://cdburnerxp . se/)

Its free, but I've never used it .

545682 2007-04-30 09:04:00 Have a look at this:

Roxio has just released an update for their driver that fixes a problem when running the Roxio CD drivers together with AVG Free for Windows Edition.

545683 2007-04-30 09:08:00 I've got McAfee, so doesn't affect me, thanks. Johnnz (7246)
545684 2007-05-30 16:46:00 For the record, it turns out that IE7 is the culprit in this issue. By uninstalling IE7 the DVD Builder program (to make VCD's etc) will work.

I use Firefox anyway, so was more than happy to uninstall IE7 :)

I've still got MS Word installation window popping up every time I start up my laptop though...
