545595 2007-04-30 06:50:00 The PC was being used to view a webpage and had the email program on too. Nothing strenuous.

There was about 100ms of a coloured square pattern on the screen and it shut off.
Restarted and it was fine.
Prime95 test passed.
Looped 3DM06 and it was fine.

It has done this once before but without the pretty pattern thing.

Specs:
Silverstone OP650
AMD 5000+
2 x 1GB Kingston DDR2-667

X1900XTX which is 1 year old.

545597 2007-04-30 09:24:00 Don't you have a miracle PSU tester pctek? Have you tested the PSU? Pete O'Neil (6584)
545598 2007-04-30 10:38:00 Hmm... How often does it do it?

Tried running Memtest? could be a spot in the memory that the tests you have ran so far hasn't hit yet...

Any error code? Or does it just die or shutdown?

Could possibily be a software error too...

545599 2007-04-30 10:58:00 D Have you tested the PSU?

No.

However I did pull the plastic thing off the end of the molex for the front LEDs, and attached them with just the prongs. And used some electrical tape so they stay separated.
(They have lost their clippy bits.)

................And am awaiting further shutdowns.

545600 2007-04-30 10:59:00 PSU gets my vote. One rail drops in voltage, evident by video ram corruption then wham. godfather (25)

.

It did it again before I rebuilt the molex.

I had ran Prime95 and looped 3DM06.
Memtest takes too long. ANyway its not RAM.

No errors. Just off. Poof, not screen patterns either then.

Anyway I'll go play something intense now and see................

545602 2007-04-30 19:46:00 Hmm, I agree with the other two, the PSU... but it is strange how it dies at anytime, intensive running or not... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
545603 2007-05-01 01:49:00 I take it that you go to sleep from time to time?

Leave Memtest running while you do so.

Probably a Power Supply Unit problem though. This based on the fact you said. "(They have lost their clippy bits.)" Molex power connector.

545604 2007-05-01 03:32:00 The operation on the molex seems to have cured it.

Thought so.

*&^%$ molex connectors.
