545559 2007-04-30 05:43:00 I can't playback my DVD on this new Vista HP laptop.

Error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Can someone please advise.

Cheers

545560 2007-04-30 05:48:00 Install codecs or use another program. Speedy Gonzales (78)
545561 2007-04-30 05:58:00 Have you had WinDVD or PowerDVD or another DVD player program installed? Windows does not come with a DVD decoder, so while Windows Media Player can play DVDs, it requires decoder to be installed first. Install WinDVD or PowerDVD or similar and then your DVDs should play.

If you have a DVD decoder installed, then post back, as taht would mean another problem :(

Found an older ver of PowerDVD, installed but Vista doesn't like it, says it has a known issue.

Downloading the Trial ver now.

545563 2007-04-30 07:03:00 Just downloaded the Trial ver, installed and it's working fine. But have got only 30 days to use it.

I thought it's freeware which usually comes with a DVD player?

Or can someone be kind enough to give me the CD key?:D

545565 2007-04-30 07:13:00 Why not use Media Player Classic if it will work on Vista, or VLC Player

Both are cabable of playing DVDs

545566 2007-04-30 07:30:00 OK. That's about the DVD problem -considered resolved. :)

Now, there is another problem with this new toy called Vista:

It cannot connect to my wireless router. Entered the MAC address of the wireless card to the Linksys Router, keyed in the security password but Vista just doesn't like it. :(

From the ipconfig/all it says DHCP of this wireless card is not ON. How do I turn it ON?

There are lots of new features to learn. I better be quick or else, may put in my good old XP .....
