545468 2007-04-30 02:53:00 I've searched for an answer in here but couldn't find it so here is my question.

I'm trying a modem/router for the first time. It's a D-Link 502T Router and it is allowing me to surf the net.
However, I need to download daily files through a particular software package but the router won't allow me to connect up to it.

I think I need to enter the Virtual Server tab on the router configuration to allow FTP downloads??
If so, the Virtual Server Tab is the only part that I can't access. Anyone know why?

Cheers

545469 2007-04-30 05:28:00 I use the same router with standard settings and I ftp all the time up and down (higher percentage uploading), do you have any firewalls installed thiswhere i would start looking beama (111)
545470 2007-04-30 05:48:00 you should be able to transfer thru ftp without doing anything in the Virtual Server tab - I have the same Router and have no probs with ftp's, both browser and ftp client transfers (I use FlashFXP)
Strange tho, my VirtualServer tab is accessable to me, tho Ive never needed to config anything in it - in fact its the first time I've ever even looked in that particular tab of the CP LOL

anyway, are you sure it's not something in your ftp client configuration?
What ftp client (software package) are you using?
Is it connecting and successfully logging in to the ftp site

545471 2007-04-30 06:01:00 Thanks for the replies beama and bevy,
It sounds like I shouldn't even need to access the virtual server huh?

I have the firewall turned off on the router and tried to download my data files with XP firewall temporarily turned off but it still wasn't able to connect.

Bevy asked me if I'm sure it's not my ftp client configuration and what ftp client I'm using.
I'm assuming it's some sort of ftp facility that I'm using. To download my data I just click on a button and it takes me to the files which I download into my software.
Maybe I'd better check with my data provider to see if there is some sort of setting I need to change....
