545375 2007-04-29 23:17:00 'Super' used to work just fine, converting YouTube and GoogleVideo files to mpegs so that I could show them on our TV or give them to friends. Then a month or two ago when starting Super there was a notice that an updated version was available. I downloaded and installed the new version but now it refuses to open. When starting the program, there is the usual pause with the WinXP 'busy' icon but instead of the program opening, nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling Super and reinstalling the old version that worked - have done this twice - but no change. I have tried shutting down the firewall and antivirus, etc, but still nothing.

Any ideas of how to get Super running again?
Or is there another free video encoder for flv and gvp files?

As I said above:

545379 2007-04-30 00:16:00 You could try uninstalling again then manually cleaning out any residual files or registry entries before reinstalling the old version. Could be something is telling the install that the new version has been installed.

Cheers

545380 2007-04-30 00:33:00 This might work (www.videora.com)

And free. Altho, it looks like people have reported that sound etc can get out of sync.

Or this may work (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/)

Which is also free.

I havent tried either tho.

I use Allok Mpeg4 Converter, and Ipod Video Converter (but this doesnt convert flash), but they're not free.

545381 2007-04-30 09:07:00 On the Super website faq page it says that problems come from a corrupt file. Download it again but don't use a download manager and use IE. Rutherford (10399)
545382 2007-04-30 13:12:00 Mostly when Videos are saved from YouTUBE they dont use a download 'manager' as such.

System Rollback an option?

545383 2007-04-30 13:19:00 He means using a download manager to get Super, Persoanlly I find their site a pain in the arse and just get it elsewhere.

(also, I use flashget to cue dozens of youtube vides)

Anyway, If super hangs then check the task manager, if its launched but bot on the desktop then kill super via the task manager and relaunch it.

If its on the taskbar but not the desktop then minimise everything so your desktop is clear, right click the taskbar entry and select restore or open, sometimes takes a couple of goes.

In the event of a delete/install dump all your temp files, and look under your profile for any folders created by super.
