| 545068 | 2007-04-29 00:24:00 | Hi, still have a problem with home pc, run a wired / wireless network, my laptop works fine over the wireless, net speed is awesome as we live next to the exchange. the desktop is connected via wired lan, it is very very slow ( feels slower than 56K) to the net, just reinstalled windows this morning to see if this would help, last week ran the trojan remover, cc clean etc. I have set my network settings to get an ip address automatically, I checked this and it is one from the router it is connected to, I set DNS to auto, although my laptop I have set to the orcon dns that is our ISP, I have changed the desktop back and forth between auto and fixed DNS with no change. Any suggestions on where to start. |

The router will also need DNS forwarding turned on (this is the default in all the ones I've ever seen). Can you transfer files between the two machines on the LAN? What is the speed like doing that, and is there a difference going in either direction? |
