2007-04-28 15:54:00 | I get an occasional TIME-OUT from the F1 server . . but I am calling long distance from SoCal anyway . Pages have been very slow to build . . . like I was on dial-up years ago . . . but I am on DSL at about 4M . Have AdBlock and a few other things, but the problem of slow loads and T/O's really just recently got worse . I suspect the 240v/120v differential again . Using FF ONLY and I have the avatars running . . . seems to make no real difference if they are on or off to me . . . still very slow .

2007-04-28 20:11:00 | Using Firefox with no problems. I have to say though that the Internet has been slower (than usual) over the last few day. I've restarted my router 5 times in the last 6-9 days because I was getting crap download speeds. Mrs chiefnz was complaining too even she noticed that the Internet was slow as. It did improve after the restarts but I'm not happy having to turn my router off very couple of days just to get decent download speeds. My neighbour's have the same problem she say her Internet has been slow over the last few days. Telecom need to be given the hurry up if you ask me...but that's a debate for another time. Cheers

2007-04-28 23:10:00 | I have a feeling Comodo may have been a factor in this too. Coz: 1. I use Mirc, and the DCC never worked with Comodo installed. No matter what the guys at Comodo said to put in under Network Monitor. I had to put in 4 ports (TCP/UDP). It didnt matter, where I put them in (up the top/middle, or bottom), of Network Monitor, DCC still refused to work. 2. Up until recently, Comodo was blocking my DNS server ip's. It was showing this in its log. And it wasnt until I added Ihug's DNS server ips as a Zone, that browsing went faster. So, in the end I killed Comdo (this morning) and installed ZA IS 7. Went to grc.com to see how good ZA was, and I was surprised it actually passed (without me adding anything else, like previous versions). And umm, surprise surprise DCC worked first time (previously with Comodo, I had to add the DCC ports I was using to XP's firewall (even tho its off). In ZA I managed to DCC fine without adding the DCC ports to XP's firewall at all. So, for now I think I'll wait for V3 of Comodo to come out. Before I install it again. To see if it lets me DCC without all of this rigmarole.

2007-04-29 00:26:00 | Opera OK here, tried editing site preferences to "identify as mozilla" & "identify as IE", both slower. | steelsporran (6566) | |
2007-04-29 02:15:00 | I was using IE 7 then I got IE7 pro add on with its ad blocker it has improved loading pages on Pf1. I also use Comodo with no problems. However I don't use DCC. I tried FF but I didn't like the way it does its bookmarks, also I can't say I noticed any improvement on speed. Press F1 has been lagging overall, but it has been doing it for a while now. I don't think it has anything to do with the browser I use as I don't have any other problems loading other NZ based websites.

2007-04-29 03:12:00 | I wonder how much does PCWorld NZ spend on bandwidth usage per month? I don’t think PC World pays for the bandwidth like us home users do, I think they just pay for the line & speed or something like that. Plus I don’t think PC World would say on a Public forum how much they pay for bandwidth. PS: James try e-mailing Bruce or James (Fairfax Business Media James), but I dont think they will say.
