545394 2007-04-30 05:39:00 I don't know of any law that says you have to buy an OS with a computer. JJJJJ (528)
545395 2007-04-30 05:44:00 I don't think there ever was one, but just try telling that to Microsoft...:p Considering that they argued that IE was an essential part of the OS when questioned by the US DOJ. winmacguy (3367)
545396 2007-04-30 05:53:00 As always, a Google search (www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=microsoft+eula+refund&meta=) is interesting. Graham L (2)
545397 2007-04-30 05:59:00 There is a forum post in the chat section discussing how we all came to be using Windows, well I think that list of stories answers that question quite clearly. It has nothing to do with innovation, it is more to do with Microsofts shrewd back room lock in deals with OEMs to make sure that OEMs are forced to only sell Windows on their hardware thus making sure that Windows remains the dominant OS till death do us part. winmacguy (3367)
545398 2007-04-30 06:59:00 Has anyone been able to check out those laptop specs from my previous post. Im interested to find out why there is over a $1000 dollars difference between two laptops that appear to be the same. Well to me anyway.

Microsoft argue that if a pc is sold without an OS or even Linux, 9 times out of 10 it will end up with Windows on it anyway and usually a pirate copy. So they want their money up front. So from next week you can't buy blank cd's anymore because 9 times out of 10, pirated music ends up on it... sorry :D

We should take Microsoft's word as gospel:p

545401 2007-04-30 09:30:00 When you buy a recordable CD you are paying a levy to the record companies, on the basis that you might record copyright music on it (instead of recording copyright software on it. :D ) Graham L (2)

The RIAA is also stuck in the dark ages. Although with the current cost of blank CDs, that would be a pretty small levy.

545403 2007-04-30 23:11:00 This NZ retailer is offering a laptop with no OS installed (under customise) - Atech. May be worth contacting them and seeing if they offer other models like that too.

Interesting thing. That Atech link has broken.
