| 545187 | 2007-04-30 07:14:00 | Define "LOT". The usual cry is that the money's in selling service rather than hardware. Would a very small trader necessarily get much better prices from a wholesaler? If I compare individual components with the cheapest seller on Pricespy, then no, not much. But if I compare what I build a PC for compared with Ascents price for it (exact comparison), then yes, its a lot. I mostly do service as you say, doesn't mean I don't try to give customers a good price when they do want/need a new PC. |

| 545189 | 2007-04-30 07:58:00 | DDR400?! That motherboard takes DDR2 I'd put a proper CPU in too. Either Intel or AMD but not a Celeron or Sempron. And a bigger drive. If you are going to build for people, you should get some suppliers. Ascent is a good shop but they certainly aren't cheap, and you could build that a LOT cheaper getting the parts wholesale. To get parts wholesale, one needs an account. To get an account, one needs references. To get references, one needs to be in the business of building and repairing computers for a living. I work elsewhere for a crust, this is only a hobby and occassional extra money earner. I would love to have an account with Morningstar and co. but any orders would only ever be sporadic (say every 6 months) |

All I wanted was to make sure I hadnt overlooked a possible incompatibility with the hardware. |

And Synnex is probably a better start than Morningstar. I don't order much either (as Mstar tells me), I do repairs, I'm not a shop. My Mstar account is cash only, to have a credit account you need to order $5000 per month. :horrified |

| 545193 | 2007-04-30 10:09:00 | Synnex? If your point of contact is a lass named Jen (Not our Jen) then you will be in excellent hands, She was without doubt my lifeline when I was running my company. Though she was with a different supplier then. |
