Terry, Doncaster, & You??

Pretty Damn fast tho. How can we get Richard Branson & Virgin Meedia over here & blow the others out of the water.

Homesick? Yeah, always am when talking to Doncaster these days. Don't think me ungrateful. NZ has been very good for me & my children & G-children. We have all had a much better life here than there. But. As one gets older.... PJ:waughh: :illogical

I was born in Brum, John, but my paternal grandfather and all his forebears as far back as we can trace, came from the top corner of Yorkshire between Whitby and Middlesbrough, from villages such as Hinderwell, Lythe, Guisborough, Danby, Newton, Rosebury Topping.

545129 2007-04-30 09:14:00 There is only one good road in Yorkshire, the one into Lancashire,or so they say.
For my part Derbyshire wins for good walking etc,you must all try the Pennine walk.

"The one good road" is correct, but you have the direction wrong.

I have driven the Pennine road many times. Way back in the late 1950s & early 1960s. A hell of a lot easier now tho'. PJ

Answers.com says

Melbourne is a small Georgian market town (population 5,000) in South Derbyshire, England. It is about eight miles south of Derby and two miles from the River Trent. In 1837 a then tiny settlement in Australia was named after William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne, Queen Victoria's first Prime Minister, and thus indirectly takes its name from the village.

545134 2007-04-30 10:40:00 Hmmmm? £20 for an 8mb connection must be a one time offer. I am also with virgin media and I get a 4mb service for £25.

While its a good service it isn't that good!

Have a look at the offers:

I do feel sorry for you guys in NZ after reading your posts over capped limits and your ISP's charging for bandwidth.

If I remember correctly from my time over there, your banking charges are extortionate as well- charges to open an account, charges to withdraw money and even a charge to close an account! Not realy surprising I still have NZ bank accounts that are still open 10 years after I left the country.

Sorry for the rant :)

Not sure where you banked, but we pay nothing in the way of bank fees, nothing to open an account, use an ATM, use internet banking etc.

Your rates are reasonable for broadband, but remember you have 10 times or more population and less isolation in terms of data origin. That would be a main reason for the lack of caps. We are just a far-flung colony.

545136 2007-04-30 11:20:00 Well it was 10 years ago, things have probably changed.

Far flung or not, NZ is a wonderful country. If I was going to emigrate NZ would be my first choice. In many ways you are very lucky living there.

545137 2007-04-30 11:32:00 My father pays $30 for a 10MBps connection unlimited bandwith per month in hong kong and also only Australia and NZ's broadband are the ones I can think of that are expensive and ridiculous pricing.

I think the telephone thing in hk was unbundled 10-15 years ago. Can't really remember
