545309 2007-04-29 18:55:00 :help: I can't get my laptop to work! When I start it up, it works fine, and then it gets to the point where you can see my desktop background, but none of the icons. It just stops there. Sometimes, a little window pops up that says "Dr. Watson's Portmortem Debugger has encountered an error and needs to close." But sometimes it doesn't. I've tried ctrl+alt+delete and stopping the Dr. Watson process in the task manager, but it still stops on that screen. I can open programs with the task manager, by using the new task button, but that's all I can do.

Thanks for your help.

545310 2007-04-29 19:27:00 Dr . Watson is Microsoft's idea of a joke . . it is intended to help with and send failure notices to Microsoft . . but other than that . . it is practically useless to the casual user .

It sounds like some sortta malware . . . Sir Speedy is asleep right at the moment, and he is one of the best de-buggers here .

However, to get things rolling, he's gonna need some info on your system .

Type computer (Brand, model, desktop or laptop etc)
Operating system (XP, 2000, ME, 98SE . . . etc)
RAM size,
Programs installed .
Security programs that you have . . . (please don't say Norton or McAfee!)
What browser you use (looking for Firefox/Google here!)

You're gonna need to run something like Hijackthis too . . . take this mirror, assuming you are near NZ or Australia . . ( . com/downloadget . php?id=3155&file=14&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13" target="_blank">majorgeeks . com) and install it someplace other than a temp file or download area . . . I like to send things I am currently working with to my desktop to make them easy to find later .

Copy/paste a shot of the WHOLE RESULTS in a reply to this post . . . and Sir Speedy will be getting up soon .

If you're still here Elly, get hijackthis in my sig below. Put it in its own folder, run it click on scan and save a log.

Copy and paste the log back here.
